1431 ACCOUNTING
TECHNICIAN II
(PAYROLL)
GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK
Performs difficult technical work in the processing of the payroll and employee deductions; does related work
as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Supervisor of Payroll.
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible
amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, grasping and repetitive
motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word;
hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for
preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and
thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse
environmental conditions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS
This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge or skills associated
with
? Preparing and maintaining payroll and related records and files; preparing reports.
? Processes semi-monthly payroll; inputs new contracts, pay changes, transfers, docks, resignations,
encumbrances and account distributions; inputs stipend information for no planning period, athletics,
extra-curricular duties, department heads, etc.;
? Verifies and enters additional hours timesheets, miscellaneous pay, workers' compensations docks,
garnishments, child support, tax liens, bankruptcy deductions, tax withholdings, etc.;
? Prepares a variety of spreadsheets used for payroll verification;
? Meets with new hires; explains payroll procedures when required;
? Prepares federal and state electronic transmittal of funds; prepares, maintains and generates a variety
of required reports, forms and spreadsheets;
? Prepares complex computer reports used to project and analyze expenditures and proposals;
? Works with Senior Accountant regarding general ledger and all journal entries;
? Assists and prepares information for auditors;
? Prepares and maintains employees' use of school board vehicle benefit tax;
? Works with all Financial Software including Microsoft, Google, SmartFind and LINQ;.
? Responsible for all leave including balances, accruals, cancellations, corrections and downloading
data;
? Works with Virginia Short Term Disability and Long Term as related to VRS Hybrid;
? Works with all extra hours through LINQ Portal;
? Responsible for all other deductions such as United Way, SEF and EAS;
? Works on keying entries regarding salary scales;
? Responsible for substitute pay;
? Produces various videos for entering additional hours;
? Assists with balancing with the Supervisor/Coordinator for month and Year end;
? Helps to train bookkeepers and Admin on
LINQ ESP
entries with leave/time;
? Maintains job/account codes for additional duties;
? Performs related tasks as required and assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of the school payroll system and benefit program administration; thorough knowledge
of bookkeeping terminology and methods; general knowledge of accounting theory and principles, and their
application to the accounting transactions of the area assigned; general knowledge of standard office
procedures, practices and equipment; skill in the use of computer equipment; ability to establish and maintain
effective working relationships with associates and the general public; ability to follow detailed and written
instructions; ability to prepare complex financial records and reports.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by
course work in bookkeeping and accounting and considerable experience involving the maintenance of
payroll and financial records.
