Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced technician to join our financial management team. The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in accounting principles, hands-on experience with financial processes, and proficiency using multiple accounting systems and software. This role is critical to preserving accurate fiscal records, ensuring compliance with federal and agency policies, and supporting the financial stability and decision-making needs of the organization.
SALARY:
$45,409 - $65,599 per year GS Locality Pay Tables can be accessed at: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/pay-leave/salaries-wages/2026/general-schedule •New hires typically start at the GS-06 Step 1 level Responsibilities Support development, forecasting, and tracking of workloads, expenditures, and accounts across multiple funding streams. Assist in reconciling project-specific ledgers to the USDA Financial Management Modernization Initiative (FMMI) ledgers to ensure accuracy and consistency. Provide technical guidance on procedural and documentation requirements; prepare and submit required forms and records. Analyze historical financial and operational data to estimate annual fiscal needs and support operating budget development. Retrieve and review financial reports and ledgers to validate balances and the integrity of accounting entries. Identify incorrect obligations, verify corrected reporting, recommend procedural improvements, and report findings to leadership. Support review of administrative reports and records to inform resource management and planning. Assist the Budget Analyst with maintaining the APHIS Cost Management System (ACMS), reviewing planned/committed ledger items, salary projections, agreements, and allocations. Maintain files according to the
APHIS/WS
records management policies and retention requirements. Qualifications Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level in private or public sectors demonstrating: Experience with financial management at private, state, local, or federal levels. Experience preparing budgets, estimates, and reconciling accounts. Experience reviewing financial documents for accuracy, fiscal control, and policy compliance. Experience using financial systems/software to enter, track, verify, and reconcile transactions. Experience with administrative functions including procurement, record-keeping, and interpreting policy guidance. Other Requirements Appropriate security clearance is required as a condition of employment.
