Job Summary We are seeking an experienced and strategic Controller/CFO to lead our financial operations and drive fiscal health across our organization. This role combines hands-on accounting expertise with financial leadership, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, optimizing cash flow, and guiding the organization's financial strategy. As a key member of the management team, you will shape financial policies, oversee reporting processes, and manage a talented finance team to support our mission and long-term objectives. Responsibilities Lead the preparation and analysis of comprehensive financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) for not for profit organizations, and other regulatory requirements. Oversee all accounting functions such as general ledger management, accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing, and account reconciliation to maintain precise financial records. Manage the organization's financial close process, ensuring timely completion of month-end and year-end closing activities. Develop and implement robust internal control standards to safeguard assets and ensure regulatory compliance. Direct treasury functions including cash management, banking relationships, forecasting, and investment strategies to optimize liquidity. Supervise the management of accounting systems, Sage, or other enterprise software; leverage Excel data analysis skills for financial modeling and reporting. Lead budgeting processes, cost accounting analysis, and financial forecasting to support strategic planning. Ensure adherence to governmental accounting standards for nonprofit or public entities as applicable. Collaborate with external auditors during audits; prepare regulatory reports; ensure compliance with all applicable financial regulations. Manage a high-performing finance team by providing mentorship, setting goals, and fostering professional development. Manage budget process Manage the annual external financial audit process and related tax filings Experience Proven experience in accounting or finance roles, preferably with exposure to non-profit organizations. CPA license preferred, but not required. Extensive knowledge of accounting principles including GAAP and nonprofit accounting practices. Demonstrated expertise in managing complex accounting systems like QuickBooks, Sage, or similar software platforms. Proficiency in financial analysis tools such as Excel for data analysis, forecasting models, and scenario planning. Experience overseeing cash management strategies including treasury functions like banking relationships and investment oversight. Ability to lead cross-functional teams effectively while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication skills with the ability to write clear financial reports and present complex information succinctly. Familiarity with double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, general ledger reconciliation, account analysis, accounts payable/receivable management.
