Job Description

Position Overview As an Insurance Legal & Compliance Intern, you will work with members of the Insurance, Legal and Compliance teams to gain practical exposure to the legal, regulatory, compliance, governance, and operational matters that support an insurance organization. This internship provides an opportunity to develop research, analytical, organizational, and professional communication skills while learning how Legal and Compliance partner with business functions throughout an insurance company. The intern will assist with a variety of projects and day-to-day activities based on departmental priorities and business needs. Primary Responsibilities Responsibilities and assignments may vary throughout the internship and may include:
Research and Analysis:
Assist with research relating to insurance, legal, regulatory, compliance, and business matters. Review information from various sources and summarize findings in a clear and organized manner.
Compliance Support:
Assist with ongoing compliance activities, including tracking requirements, deadlines, action items, documentation, and other matters supporting the Company's compliance responsibilities.
Document Review and Organization:
Assist with reviewing, organizing, maintaining, and comparing legal, compliance, regulatory, and business documents, which may include policies, procedures, contracts, filings, correspondence, forms, and governance materials.
Legal and Business Support:
Assist the Legal and Compliance teams with projects involving contracts, insurance operations, regulatory matters, internal policies and procedures, and other business initiatives.
Governance and Risk Management Support:
Assist with preparation and organization of meeting materials, minutes, reports, action items, risk-related documentation, and other materials supporting the Company's governance and risk management processes.
Regulatory and Industry Awareness:
Assist in identifying and reviewing developments affecting the insurance industry and help summarize information that may be relevant to the Company's operations, products, or business practices.
Project Support:
Participate in special projects involving Legal, Compliance, Risk Management, insurance operations, or other business areas. Projects may vary depending upon current departmental priorities and the student's interests and experience.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work with team members from Legal, Compliance, and other business areas to gather information, understand business processes, and support assigned projects.
Documentation and Recordkeeping:
Assist with maintaining organized records, project materials, compliance calendars, tracking tools, and other departmental resources.
Professional Development:
May attend appropriate meetings, training sessions, and discussions to gain a broader understanding of insurance operations and the role of Legal, Compliance, and Risk Management within an insurance organization. Position Type / Expected Hours of Work Approximately 3 hours per week. Onsite every Wednesday from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Bankers Insurance Group in St. Petersburg, Florida. Internship assignments will be structured to provide meaningful work that can be completed within the duration and schedule of the program. Required Skills and Characteristics Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to review information and summarize key points clearly and accurately. Ability to work collaboratively at the direction from multiple team members. Ability to manage assigned tasks and adapt to changing priorities. Professionalism, good judgment, and discretion when working with confidential information. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Interest in insurance, business, law, compliance, risk management, or related fields is helpful; prior insurance or legal experience is not required. Gain exposure to collaboration among Legal, Compliance, Risk Management, and other insurance business functions. Learn how businesses identify, evaluate, document, and respond to legal, regulatory, compliance, and operational issues. Gain practical experience working in a professional corporate environment.
