Job Overview The Import Operations & Customs Specialist is a dual-function role responsible for managing import shipments from origin through final delivery and preparing U.S. Customs entries in compliance with all applicable regulations. This position combines operational coordination with brokerage execution and requires strong attention to detail, regulatory awareness, and customer ownership. Duties Import Operations Coordinate import shipments (air, ocean, truck, rail) from origin to final delivery Collect, review, and validate shipping documents (MBL/HBL, commercial invoices, packing lists, arrival notices) Track shipments and proactively communicate status updates to customers and agents Coordinate with carriers, terminals, truckers, and warehouses Monitor and manage demurrage, detention, and free-time exposure Resolve shipment discrepancies, delays, and documentation issues Maintain accurate records in the TMS and operational systems Process files from A to Z with billing and closing of transaction Customs Brokerage / Entry Writing Prepare and transmit customs entries via ACE (01, 02, 06, 10, etc.) Classify merchandise using the HTSUS Determine correct customs value and country of origin Apply special tariff provisions (e.g. Section 301, 232, IEEPA, AD/CVD, 98/99 provisions) Calculate duties, taxes, and fees accurately Respond to CBP inquiries (CF-28, CF-29) Support PSC filings, protests, audits, and compliance reviews Escalate compliance concerns when required Skills Extensive knowledge of customs regulations compliance, including customs brokerage management and customs clearance procedures. Strong understanding of international trade regulations. Proficiency in logistics management software, global trade management systems, and advanced Excel data analysis skills. Familiarity with transportation management practices including fleet management, freight coordination, and transportation safety regulations. Ability to interpret complex regulatory documents and prepare comprehensive reports; excellent report writing skills are essential. Experience in supply chain coordination with a focus on import management and logistics compliance. Strong risk management capabilities to identify potential issues early and implement effective solutions efficiently. Technical proficiency in regulatory reporting tools and knowledge of office procedures related to compliance management.
