Export Manager - Air Freight

Overview We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Export Manager specializing in Air Freight to oversee and coordinate freight forwarding logistics for international shipments. The ideal candidate will manage the end-to-end export process, ensuring timely and efficient air and ocean freight operations while maintaining high standards of service quality. This role requires a strong understanding of international export freight procedures, customs regulations, and logistics management to facilitate seamless export activities.Responsibilities Essential:
Lead and oversee all export operations, including booking, documentation, shipment coordination, consolidation activities, warehouse handling, and freight movement to ensure efficient, compliant, and profitable operations. Supervise, develop, and manage Export Department personnel, including hiring, training, performance management, work assignments, employee development, and resolving operational or personnel issues. Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and standards, includingDOT, FAA, DOC, FDA, USDA, U.S.
Customs, Treasury Department requirements, Dangerous Goods regulations, live animal and perishable shipment requirements, and ISO standards where applicable. Prepare, review, and maintain export documentation, including bills of lading, letters of credit, commercial invoices, export licenses, and other required records to support regulatory compliance and audit readiness. Analyze operational performance and financial results, including shipment statistics, budgets, costs, and profitability, while implementing process improvements to enhance service, efficiency, and financial performance. Negotiate rates and capacity with airlines and other transportation providers to secure competitive pricing and support customer requirements. Coordinate with customers, carriers, government agencies, internal departments, and service providers to resolve issues, ensure timely shipment execution, and deliver exceptional customer service. Stay informed of industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices and provide guidance and training to promote operational excellence and compliance. Support branch and corporate initiatives, special projects, and strategic objectives as assigned by management. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred. Minimum 2 years of management experience in freight forwarding, with a strong emphasis on air freight export operations and supervision of personnel. Working knowledge of international shipping regulations, customs procedures, export documentation requirements, and freight forwarding best practices. Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in logistics software and Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to obtain and maintain TSA STA certification and Forklift Safety Certification. Physical requirements Flexible and long hours sometimes required. Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, frequently and/or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
