Job Description
Full-time position onsite in Ellsworth, IL M-F Overview We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Controller to oversee and manage the financial operations at a local organization. In this role you will manage finance, accounting, and the HR departments. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in various accounting disciplines, including GAAP, IFRS, and regulatory reporting, with a focus on ensuring compliance, accuracy, and efficiency in financial management. This role offers an opportunity to lead financial reporting processes, implement robust internal controls, and contribute to strategic financial planning within a dynamic environment. Responsibilities Oversee all accounting functions including general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing. Oversee the activities of the corporate accounting department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements and annual audits and annual budgets. Oversee the activities of the accounting department, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, sales taxes, employee expense reports, cash control, payroll processing, corporate payroll tax compliance, and 1099 reporting Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP, IFRS, and other regulatory standards. Establish strategic goals by gathering pertinent business, financial, service, and operations information; identifying and evaluating trends and options; choosing a course of action; defining objectives; evaluating outcomes. Maintains quality service by enforcing quality and customer service standards; analyzing and resolving quality and customer service problems; identifying trends; recommending system improvements. Manage balance sheet reconciliation processes to maintain integrity of financial data. Lead the preparation of regulatory reports and ensure compliance with governmental and non-profit accounting standards. Supervise month-end and year-end closing procedures, including journal entries and account analysis. Manage cash flow and cash management activities to optimize liquidity. Oversee the use of accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, and other financial management tools. Collaborate with external auditors during audits and ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements. Provide leadership in technical accounting issues including complex transactions involving double entry bookkeeping and financial concepts. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred. 10 years of hands-on accounting managerial experience 10 years of management experience Strong understanding of all functions of an accounting department; accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, etc. Comfortable negotiating contracts and insurance policies, reviewing invoices, and meeting with tax advisors and auditors Extensive experience in corporate accounting with a strong background in GAAP, IFRS, public accounting, governmental accounting, or non-profit accounting. Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or similar platforms; experience with financial software is essential. Strong understanding of cash management principles, budgeting processes, forecasting techniques, and financial analysis. Excellent knowledge of technical accounting standards including debits & credits and double entry bookkeeping. Demonstrated ability to lead financial report writing and manage complex financial concepts with precision. Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. Strong analytical skills combined with excellent communication skills for clear report writing and presentation of financial data.
