Job Description
About the Opportunity A well-established insurance organization is seeking a Director of Investment Accounting to lead its investment accounting function. This role will oversee a team responsible for the accounting and reporting of a large, complex investment portfolio while partnering closely with Investments, Finance, and Executive Leadership. This is not a general investment accounting position. Candidates must have direct investment accounting experience within the insurance industry and prior people management experience. Responsibilities
- Lead the investment accounting team and oversee day-to-day operations
- Manage the accounting and reporting for a diverse investment portfolio, including fixed income securities, equities, alternatives, and other invested assets
- Review and approve monthly, quarterly, and annual investment accounting activities
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and Statutory accounting requirements related to invested assets
- Oversee investment-related journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting disclosures
- Partner with Investment, Treasury, FP&A, and Executive Leadership teams on investment-related initiatives
- Support external audits, regulatory examinations, and internal controls processes
- Monitor new accounting guidance and assess the impact on investment reporting
- Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and operational efficiencies
- Develop, mentor, and manage a team of accounting professionals Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA strongly preferred
- 7+ years of direct investment accounting experience within an insurance company
- Prior people management experience leading and developing accounting teams
- Strong understanding of investment accounting, including fixed income securities, equities, and alternative investments
- Experience with both Statutory and GAAP reporting requirements
- Knowledge of insurance company investment structures and reporting processes
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with accounting and investment systems
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities
