The New Mexico Educational Retirement Board is a statutory entity that provides secure retirement benefits for our active and retired members from school districts, higher education and educational agencies. The New Mexico Educational Retirement Board is an organization of approximately 66,000 active working members, 69,000 inactive members and 70,000 retirees and beneficiaries. The ERB manages one of the highest-ranking public pension plans in the country in terms of return on investment. Why does the job exist? An Investment Intern will be an integral part of the investment team, participating in all aspects of the investment process, from initial screening and due diligence, through approval, to post-investment monitoring and reporting. The Investment Intern will support the group's efforts in other areas as well, including administrative functions as needed. This position demands excellent communications skills, strong analytical insight and spreadsheet modeling skills, an understanding of financial statements, perseverance and creativity in accessing information, and the ability to balance multiple tasks. The Investment Intern will have an opportunity to learn various aspects of private markets. The intern will receive overviews of investing in private equity, private real estate private real assets and private credit. How does it get done? Support Investment Officers in developing key performance metrics for different parts of ERB portfolio. Maintain and develop agency data sets that contribute to portfolio monitoring via multiple software applications. Audit and maintain key post investment approval documents such as ADVs, annual audits, data requests etc; Support Investment Officers in developing Request for Proposals and Request for Information for assets managers and key consulting relationships. Work with internal and external counsel to track legal documents associated with investment activities. Miscellaneous administrative tasks such as filing reports, copying and other basic organizational activities. Contribute to the preparation of ad-hoc materials in support of monthly Investment Committee Meetings and Board Meetings. Who are the customers? NMERB members and staff. Minimum Qualification Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university OR completion of at least four (4) semesters (or equivalent) at an accredited college or university within the last two (2) years. Employment Requirements Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results. Working Conditions Work is usually performed in an office setting, with extensive exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), personal computer and telephone usage. This position also requires the employee to use a copy machine, printer, fax machine and 10 key calculator.
