Controller - Client Accounting & Advisory Tampa, FL | Full-Time At Solved, we provide fractional accounting and financial leadership to growing businesses. We're looking for an experienced accounting professional who can take ownership of the financial function for a portfolio of clients while leading a team and staying close to the day-to-day accounting. This is a hands-on Controller role. You'll oversee approximately 5-7 clients, manage and develop accounting team members, and work directly with business owners, leadership teams, and other client stakeholders. We're looking for someone who knows how to get the accounting right-but doesn't stop there. You should be able to review the financials, understand what's driving the numbers, identify issues and opportunities, and communicate those insights clearly to clients. This could be a great next step for an Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, CAS Manager, or Controller who wants broader ownership, exposure to multiple businesses, and the opportunity to continue developing their financial leadership and advisory skills. What You'll Do Own the Accounting Oversee day-to-day accounting and financial operations for a portfolio of approximately 5-7 clients Lead the month-end close process and ensure financial statements are accurate and delivered on time Review reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, AP, AR, payroll, and other accounting activity Maintain accurate balance sheets and resolve discrepancies or accounting issues Ensure accounting practices and financial reporting are consistent with GAAP Develop and maintain strong accounting processes, procedures, documentation, and internal controls Coordinate with tax professionals, auditors, payroll providers, and other external partners Stay close to the work and be willing to step in when the team needs additional support Reporting & Financial Analysis Prepare and review monthly financial reporting packages Analyze financial performance and identify meaningful trends, risks, and opportunities Perform budget-to-actual and other variance analyses Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning Develop and monitor financial and operational KPIs Help clients understand what is driving their financial performance Translate financial information into clear, actionable insights for business owners and leadership teams Lead Clients Serve as a primary accounting and financial point of contact for assigned clients Develop a strong understanding of each client's business, operations, goals, and financial drivers Build trusted relationships with business owners and client leadership teams Communicate financial results clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders Work cross-functionally with client teams to solve accounting and operational challenges Proactively identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting, controls, and financial visibility Manage multiple client relationships, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously Lead & Develop a Team Manage, coach, and develop accounting team members Review work for accuracy, completeness, and quality Delegate effectively while maintaining ownership of client deliverables Set clear expectations and hold team members accountable for deadlines and quality Help improve team processes and identify opportunities to work more efficiently Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field 6+ years of progressive accounting experience Experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, CAS Manager, or similar accounting leadership role Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and accounting principles Demonstrated experience with month-end close and financial statement preparation and review Strong understanding of the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement Experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, AP, AR, payroll, and other core accounting functions Experience managing or reviewing the work of accounting team members Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, variance analysis, and financial reporting Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Strong Excel skills and comfort working across accounting and financial technology platforms Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and client relationships Willingness to remain hands-on with the accounting when needed Preferred Public accounting experience Tax experience or a strong working knowledge of business tax CPA or CPA-track experience Experience in Client Accounting Services (CAS), outsourced accounting, consulting, or another multi-client environment Experience working with privately held and founder-led businesses Experience managing multiple entities, clients, or engagements Experience working directly with business owners and executive leadership Experience improving accounting processes, systems, reporting, or internal controls Experience with financial dashboards, KPIs, and management reporting Who Will Thrive in This Role You may be a great fit if you: Have strong accounting fundamentals and genuinely enjoy the work Want ownership beyond completing assigned accounting tasks Are comfortable reviewing work and rolling up your sleeves when necessary Naturally investigate when something in the financials doesn't make sense Enjoy working with clients and learning how different businesses operate Can move between multiple clients and priorities without losing attention to detail Enjoy developing people and building stronger accounting teams Want to grow your financial analysis and advisory capabilities without moving away from accounting Take ownership of problems and follow them through to resolution Growth Opportunity This role provides the opportunity to build on a strong accounting foundation while gaining broader exposure to different businesses, industries, and leadership teams.
