full-time Accounting Manager (Consultant) Position Overview A Chicago-based professional association is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager Consultant to provide part-time or project-based accounting and financial management support. The consultant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements, performing account reconciliations, and supporting the organization's overall financial operations. This role is ideal for an independent accounting professional with nonprofit, association, or membership organization experience who can work effectively with leadership, external auditors, and board committees. Key Responsibilities Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Perform bank, investment, and general ledger account reconciliations. Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate financial reporting. Manage month-end and year-end closing processes. Review and record journal entries and accruals. Prepare financial reports and analyses Support annual audit and tax preparation processes, including coordination with external auditors and tax advisors. Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, nonprofit regulations, and internal controls. Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and supporting documentation. Assist with process improvements and financial system optimization. Provide ad hoc financial analysis and accounting support as needed. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA designation preferred. Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably with nonprofit organizations, associations, or membership-based organizations. Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles. Experience preparing financial statements and managing reconciliations. Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. This consultant will play a key role in ensuring the association's financial integrity while providing leadership with accurate and timely financial information to support strategic decision-making.
