Description We are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager/Supervisor to lead core accounting activities for a construction-focused organization in Westbury, New York. This position will guide financial operations across billing, payroll, job cost oversight, and month-end reporting while partnering closely with operations and leadership. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to keep financial processes accurate, timely, and well controlled.
Responsibilities:
  • Direct day-to-day accounting functions across payables, receivables, payroll, invoicing, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Lead construction billing administration, including preparation and review of payment applications, schedules of values, retainage tracking, change documentation, and related backup.
  • Manage payroll processing for both union and non-union employees, ensuring accuracy for prevailing wage requirements, certified payroll submissions, benefit allocations, and deductions.
  • Track project financial performance by reviewing job costs, committed expenses, budget activity, contract changes, and margin trends.
  • Prepare and evaluate monthly project accounting schedules such as cost forecasts, percentage-of-completion reporting, overbilling or underbilling analysis, and profitability reporting.
  • Oversee customer billing follow-up and collections activity, including monitoring aged receivables and retained balances.
  • Supervise subcontractor and vendor payment administration by confirming compliance documentation, insurance records, lien waivers, and payment terms.
  • Manage the monthly close process through reconciliations, accrual entries, journal posting, and review of account activity.
  • Support financial statement preparation, management reporting, audit coordination, insurance-related audits, and tax reporting requirements.
  • Provide leadership to accounting staff while strengthening internal controls, standardizing procedures, and partnering with project managers and senior leadership to resolve financial discrepancies and improve workflows. Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing month-end close and maintaining accurate general ledger activity.
  • Strong background in account reconciliations, accruals, and preparation or review of journal entries.
  • Experience supporting financial statement preparation and responding to audit requests.
  • Knowledge of construction accounting practices, including progress billing, job cost tracking, and project-based revenue recognition.
  • Familiarity with payroll administration involving union and non-union environments, including certified payroll and prevailing wage compliance.
  • Ability to analyze receivables, project margins, and cost trends with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience supervising accounting personnel and improving department processes.
