As a trauma-informed multi-service agency, we prioritize collaboration, inclusivity, and integrity in all that we do to foster sustainable and responsive support for those we serve. The May Dugan Center operates a Financial Opportunity Center® (FOC) affiliated with the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC). The FOC provides an integrated set of services including financial coaching, career coaching, and income support access to unemployed, underemployed, or low-wage-earning community members, with the goal of building long-term engagement with their clients and supporting them as they set and achieve career and financial goals. Job Summary The Financial Coach will provide direct financial coaching services too low to moderate-income individuals who are engaging with the integrated Financial Opportunity Center® services.
Financial coaching involves:
(1) an ability to engage and motivate clients and build their confidence to draw on their innate creativity and resourcefulness in pursuing their goals and (2) collaborating with clients to develop goals and action plans that are intended to help clients reach their goals and achieve financial stability. The coach will provide the majority of coaching services in a one-to-one setting (both in-person and virtual) but may also occasionally offer classes and workshops on topics such as budgeting, credit building, and banking products. The Financial Coach will collaborate with staff to ensure that clients are getting assistance across these three major service areas. The Financial Coach reports directly to the Director of Education and Workforce Services. Responsibilities Provide one-on-one financial and workforce coaching to clients participating in May Dugan Center's Financial Opportunity Center®. Provide or connect clients to other services offered by the agency as appropriate, particularly income support counseling and education Develop plans of action and provide tools, resources, and accountability to clients to help them meet their goals. Build trust and foster confidence with coaching clients while providing nonjudgmental support and accountability. Empower clients to resolve their current financial situations, while providing a wide lens on their financial health to shift the approach to longer-term financial goal-setting and personal finance management. Work with clients to gather baseline financial information (e.g. budget, balance sheet, credit score, goals and action plan, financial health survey) and update this information on an ongoing basis as changes in income and expenses occur. Proven experience practicing in the securities industry or providing financial advisory services. Strong knowledge of financial concepts such as estate planning, tax strategies, investment management, and wealth management. Familiarity with financial regulations including FINRA standards and securities law compliance. Experience managing client relationships within the financial services sector. Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences. Demonstrated expertise in financial analysis, research, and the use of financial software tools. Relevant certifications or licenses related to finance or securities (e.g., FINRA registration) are preferred but not mandatory. Provide or connect clients to other services offered by the agency as appropriate, particularly income support counseling and education. Receive training for and utilize Family Financial Tracking (FFT), a Salesforce-based client management system, and REDCap to document and reflect the outcomes of their clients accurately and in a timely manner. Ability to leverage existing resources to generate new ideas and methods for more productive department outcomes. Work as a community liaison to connect qualified students to workforce development and career education programs. Work closely with the Director of Education and Workforce Services, Adult Education Teacher, and ESOL Teacher, Newcomer Service staff to ensure students have access to workforce development, and financial coaching. Assist in the growth, development, facilitation, and evaluation of financial and workforce programs to meet client and organization needs. Using a trauma-informed care approach, ensure participants are continuously moving toward achieving individual workforce development and financial opportunity. Requirements Bachelor's Degree in finance; or another field with a minimum of two years relevant work experience. Demonstrated success in using evidence-based best practices in financial literacy/coaching; familiarity with trauma-informed care approach is strongly preferred. Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work in teams. Ability to set appropriate boundaries while providing excellent, responsive service to clients. Ability to work independently, efficiently manage time, and use experience and sound judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Ability to leverage existing resources to generate new ideas and methods for more productive department outcomes. Experience and success in effectively working with, and relating to, diverse audiences, and a sincere appreciation for differences in backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. Effective, respectful, and persuasive verbal and written communication skills. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, and IT skills. 3-5 years of relevant experience working in workforce development. Ability to work Full-time employment, two evenings a week, 40 hours a week.
