Job Description We are looking for an experienced accounting leader to oversee financial operations and provide dependable reporting for a community-focused organization in Pennsylvania. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate accrual-based accounting, guiding budgeting and audit activities, and delivering timely financial information that supports sound decision-making. The position also leads day-to-day department performance, strengthens internal controls, and helps the team adapt to evolving systems and operational needs.
Responsibilities: Lead the daily work of the accounting function, setting priorities and ensuring essential financial activities are completed accurately and on schedule. Prepare and review monthly and year-end financial reports, with complete prior-month statements issued by the 6th of each month. Oversee budgeting, cash management, reserve tracking, investment activity, and intercompany accounting to support organizational financial health. Manage core accounting processes such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and account reconciliations. Coordinate audit preparation by maintaining organized, audit-ready records and serving as a key point of contact during financial statement audits. Supervise, train, and coach accounting staff while establishing clear expectations for accuracy, confidentiality, productivity, and thorough conduct. Improve department continuity by documenting procedures, cross-training team members, and addressing workflow gaps during peak periods or absences. Monitor internal controls and segregation of duties, adjusting assignments and processes to meet deadlines, board support needs, and compliance standards. Communicate department performance, staffing needs, operational risks, and process improvement opportunities to senior leadership in a timely manner. Strong expertise in accrual accounting and its application to financial reporting, budgeting, and audit support. Proven experience managing month-end close and producing accurate financial statements within strict deadlines. Solid knowledge of general ledger activity, journal entries, and account reconciliation practices. Experience supporting or leading financial statement audits and maintaining well-organized supporting documentation. Demonstrated ability to supervise accounting staff, assign work effectively, and uphold performance standards. Strong analytical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to learn new systems, implement process improvements, and adapt to changing operational requirements.
