The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in construction and knowledge of all elements of the home building process. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on accounting and financial management experience, with strong expertise in construction-specific software and processes like BuilderTrend, QuickBooks management, job costing, and AIA billing. This is a great opportunity to lead our financial operations and work directly with an established team of project managers, site supervisors, and company leadership supporting award-winning projects designed by New England's premier architecture firms. Responsibilities The Accounting Manager oversees the end-to-end financial operations of the business, combining full-charge bookkeeping duties with controller-level oversight.
Key responsibilities include:
Job Costing:
Maintain accurate project cost accounting, monitor job profitability, and partner with Project Managers to analyze budget variances.
Accounts Receivable & Billing:
Manage progress billings, owner invoices, AIA billing formats (G702/G703), and collections.
Accounts Payable & Subcontractors:
Oversee subcontracts, invoice processing, insurance compliance, vendor payments, and annual 1099 reporting.
Payroll & HR Support:
Process internal payroll, manage certified payroll records where required, and track employee benefits and paid time off.
General Ledger & Reporting:
Reconcile bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and credit cards; prepare month-end/year-end close statements; and compile monthly financial reports for executive leadership.
Cash Flow Management:
Monitor daily cash flow, project future liquidity needs, and manage vendor/trade line relations.
Compliance & Audit:
Coordinate with external CPA firms for annual tax preparation, manage workers' comp audits, and maintain state licensing and insurance documentation. Qualifications A minimum of 5-8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years specifically within residential construction or general contracting. Proficiency in construction accounting software (e.g., BuilderTrend, Bill.com, QuickBooks Premier/Online, or similar) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (or equivalent professional experience). Active Driver's License and daily access to a vehicle for occasional travel between regional offices. References from past employers and/or industry partners.
