Overview The Finance Manager oversees the financial operations of the church, manages the payroll and is responsible for all Financial reporting to church committee and all outside reporting requirements. The Finance Manager will support the pastoral staff, administrative staff, trustee and committee chairs by providing accurate and updated financial accounting. Skills and Responsibilities The Finance Manager is a trusted member of the church community, the following skills are necessary:
- Accurate accounting skills
- Keen understanding of payroll including taxes and deductions
- Clear communication and strong relationships with staff, congregation, committees and outside parties
- Cooperative planning with fellow staff and congregational leaders The Finance Manager is the primary person accountable for the following responsibilities:
ACCOUNTING RESPONSIBILITIES
Congregational Financial Contributions
- Supporting annual budget process by understanding the giving patterns of the congregation coupled with the expense patterns of the church.
- Oversight of Offertory collection counters.
- Overseeing the congregation's weekly contributions in form of cash, checks and electronic funds transfers ("EFT")
- Noting and recording weekly contributions in the proper accounting format
- Advising and setting-up special gifts/funds to the church including bequests from families, stock transfers and remembrance donations Accounts Payable
- Organizing the invoices and reimbursement requests from vendors, staff, and committee members confirming eligibility for payment and availability of designated funds along with appropriate approvals
- Paying approved requests and recording all transactions in the proper accounting format Payroll
- Preparing payroll twice a month for approximately 15 staff members and the FUMCAH preschool staff of approximately 20 employees (August - May)
- Gathering of timecards, reviewing/confirming hours recorded as warranted
REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attending weekly staff meetings sharing financial information
- Running monthly reports to share with pastor, head of finance, trustees and others
- Running ad hoc reports as requested
CHURCH COMMITTEES RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist Finance Committee in creating budgets and attending bi-monthly Finance Committee meetings
- Supporting annual pledge campaign with Generosity Committee
- Recording stewardship pledges as received and provide projections Time Commitment
- On average, 18 hours per week Resources and Training

- Bachelor's degree preferred in related field and [5+] years of relevant experience
- Experience in accounting or bookkeeping required as well as experience in overseeing budget and payroll processes
- Knowledge of church management software package, QuickBooks or similar accounting software is highly desirable
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel.
- Good team-building skills and an understanding of the operations of a church is a valued asset

- Finance Manager reports to and is supported by the lead pastor
