This is a new position created as a result of continued growth in the business and the acquisition of a small but growing USDA certified meat processing facility. The is a great opportunity for the right individual who can grow with the business and provide solid systems and processes for accounting and budgeting. This role will be an executive level position reporting directly to the CEO. We see this candidate as having the opportunity to advance into a vacant CFO position if they can demonstrate the ability to manage all the controller functions.KEY QUALIFICATIONS

: Controller for a large operating cattle ranch and separate retail and wholesale beef company with a meat processing/packaging beef business which is located offsite. In this role, you will manage all accounting functions, including cost accounting for livestock, production yield tracking, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between agricultural ranch accounting and manufacturing-style food processing financials to optimize profitability across the entire operation.CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Ranch and Livestock Accounting- Track livestock inventory values, weight gains, and herd lifecycles (breeding, feeding, and market-ready phases)
- Prepare budgets and track direct ranch costs including feed, veterinary care, pasture leases and labor
- Manage depreciation schedules for ranch assets such as machinery, vehicles, fencing, and breeding stock and coordinate with tax CPA Processing and retail shop cost accounting
- Analyze variances between expected carcass yields and actual retail/wholesale cuts to identify waste or inefficiencies
- Manage inventory controls for all aspects of the beef processing (hanging carcass, work in progress and finished chilled or frozen product
- Prepare budgets and analyze cost variances for payroll and all other expenses of the meat processing and retailing business
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT AND REPORTING
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for both the ranching and processing entities
- Manage cash flow forecasting to balance seasonal ranching expenditures (i.e. bulk cattle and feed buys, calving season and projects sale times) as well as revenues and expenses of the retail and processing business.
- Oversee accounting processes and staff to ensure accuracy of accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and payroll for ranch and plant staff.
- Coordinate tax preparation specific to agricultural exemptions, livestock sales, and manufacturing tax credits
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance , or Agricultural Business.A CPA or CMA designation is highly preferred
Experience:
5+ years of accounting experience, with specific background in agribusiness (ranching/farming) and/or food manufacturing/processingTechnical Skills:
Proficiency with agricultural accounting software (e.g., CenterPoint, AgLeader) or manufacturing ERP ststems (e.g Quickbooks Enterprise, Netsuite). Experience with Shopify for the sales team a plus. Advanced Excel skills are required.Knowledge:
Deep understanding of GAAP, livestock valuation methods (market based versus cost based) and food safety/USDA compliance financial impacts.ADDITIONAL NOTES
- Work location and expectations: The ranch is approximately 45 minutes outside of Tucson. The expectation would be for the right individual to be at the ranch with the bookkeeping and administrative team at least three days a week based upon a set schedule to be agreed upon. The right candidate may be able to coordinate a very flexible schedule as long as they are available when needed.
- Reporting structure: Candidate will report directly to the company CEO and an outside CPA consultant for support.
Compensation:
To be mutually agreed based upon the candidate's experience, capacity (hours and schedule) etc. Ability to work responsibly and effectively with little supervision is something that will be highly valued!Pay:
