Job Summary:
The Senior Bookkeeper / Financial Reporting Specialist is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, completing account reconciliations, supporting month-end close, and preparing recurring financial and management reports. This position combines hands-on bookkeeping with financial reporting and analysis. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, comfortable working independently, and able to identify discrepancies and explain financial results to management. Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and complete general ledger records.
- Process and review accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, payroll accounts, and other balance-sheet accounts.
- Review transactions for proper coding, classification, and supporting documentation.
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and unusual transactions.
- Assist with month-end and year-end accounting close.
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and other accounting adjustments as needed.
- Maintain supporting schedules for prepaid expenses, fixed assets, liabilities, and other general ledger accounts.
- Prepare monthly Profit & Loss Statements, Balance Sheets, and other financial reports.
- Prepare management reports showing revenue, payroll, expenses, and profitability by office, department, business line, or another operating category.
- Prepare actual-to-budget and prior-period comparisons.
- Identify significant variances and provide supporting explanations to management.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Prepare customized Excel-based reports for management.
- Maintain organized electronic accounting records and supporting documentation.
- Prepare schedules and documentation for outside accountants, auditors, tax professionals, and other third parties.
- Assist management with special financial projects and reporting requests.
- Recommend improvements to accounting procedures, reporting processes, and internal controls. Qualifications
- 3+ years of bookkeeping, accounting, or related financial experience.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and account reconciliation.
- Experience preparing monthly financial and management reports.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, formulas, and data analysis.
- Experience with QuickBooks or comparable accounting software.
- Ability to independently investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet recurring monthly deadlines.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
