Job Summary:
The Commercial Lines Account Manager serves as a strategic insurance advisor and primary relationship manager for an assigned book of commercial business. This position is responsible for independently evaluating client risk exposures, analyzing insurance coverage needs, developing insurance program recommendations, and implementing service strategies that align with client objectives.Essential Functions:
Serve as the primary insurance advisor and relationship manager for an assigned portfolio of commercial clients, delivering exceptional service and strategic consultative support. Analyze client operations, business objectives, risk exposures, and insurance needs to develop customized coverage recommendations and risk management strategies. Lead client meetings, renewal strategy discussions, coverage reviews, and presentations with minimal supervision. Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, carriers, vendors, and internal stakeholders to support client retention and growth objectives. Independently review and analyze insurance policies, endorsements, contracts, certificates, and related documents to identify coverage gaps, exposures, and potential risk concerns. Interpret policy provisions and contractual requirements, providing recommendations regarding coverage options, exclusions, limitations, and risk transfer solutions. Design, evaluate, and recommend insurance program structures tailored to client risk profiles, operational needs, and business goals. Develop and execute marketing and placement strategies by evaluating underwriting information, loss history, market conditions, and carrier capabilities. Negotiate coverage terms, pricing, and program structures with insurance carriers to secure competitive and comprehensive insurance solutions. Evaluate carrier quotations and proposals, comparing coverage, pricing, and policy provisions to develop informed client recommendations. Exercise independent judgment in determining carrier selection, market placement strategies, and recommended insurance solutions. Lead the account renewal process, including risk assessment, marketing strategy development, carrier negotiations, coverage analysis, and presentation of renewal options. Analyze loss trends, underwriting developments, and market conditions to identify opportunities for account retention, program enhancements, and long-term risk management improvements. Resolve complex client, carrier, and coverage issues through research, analysis, negotiation, and professional judgment. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members and participate in agency initiatives, process improvements, and special projects that support operational excellence and business growth. Competencies and Qualifications Advanced knowledge of commercial property and casualty insurance products, coverages, underwriting practices, and risk management principles. Ability to interpret complex insurance contracts and policy language. Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and make decisions concerning client insurance programs. Advanced negotiation and relationship management skills. Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Ability to lead client discussions and interact effectively with business owners, executives, and insurance professionals. Proficiency with agency management systems, Microsoft Office applications, and insurance technology platformsEducation and Experience:
Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Active Property & Casualty License required. Minimum of five (5) years of commercial insurance account management experience. Experience independently managing a commercial book of business. Demonstrated expertise in coverage analysis, policy interpretation, carrier negotiations, and account management strategy.
