Type:

full-time The Junior Underwriter supports CSMV's underwriting operations by preparing and rating submissions, servicing in force policies, maintaining day to day agency communication, and building the technical skill required to underwrite trucking and commercial auto risks independently. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Receive, clear, and set up new business submissions; verify completeness of applications, driver schedules, vehicle lists, and loss runs, and request missing information from agency partners. Order and review MVRs, loss runs, FMCSA and SAFER data, and other underwriting reports; flag anything falling outside guidelines for senior underwriter review. Rate and quote risks within assigned underwriting authority using carrier rating platforms and internal tools; refer any risk above authority rather than making the call. Prepare quote proposals, coverage comparisons, and bind packets for senior underwriter review. Process endorsements, renewals, cancellations, reinstatements, and audits accurately and within service standards. Issue certificates of insurance and complete required filings, including MCS-90, Form E and Form H, and applicable state filings. Maintain complete, accurate, audit ready files in the agency management system and CRM. Serve as a day to day contact for agency partners on submission status, outstanding items, and routine service questions. Support renewal preparation by gathering updated exposure data, ordering loss runs in advance, and flagging accounts showing adverse loss development. Manage assigned diary and task queues so that no submission, renewal, or filing deadline lapses. Learn and apply carrier underwriting guidelines, appetite, and eligibility rules across CSMV's markets. Support underwriting, operational, and growth related tasks as assigned. Consistent accuracy across high volume data work, where a transposed VIN or a missed driver has real downstream cost.

Genuine appetite to learn commercial auto coverage, underwriting guidelines, and carrier appetite, and to act on feedback quickly.

Ability to manage a queue of submissions, renewals, and service items against deadlines without items falling through.

Communication:

Clear, professional written and verbal communication with agency partners and internal teams.

Analytical Skills:

Developing ability to read loss runs, MVRs, driver schedules, and exposure data and recognize what matters.

Systems Proficiency:

Comfort with Excel, Outlook, agency management systems, and carrier portals, and the ability to pick up new platforms quickly.

Judgment and Integrity:

Knowing the limits of one's own authority and escalating rather than guessing; consistent handling of confidential client information.

Teamwork and Collaboration:

Working effectively alongside underwriting, operations, and leadership to hold service levels. Minimum Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's degree preferred). 1 to 3 years of experience in insurance in any capacity, including agency, carrier, MGA, customer service, or policy processing roles. Demonstrated accuracy in data entry and documentation. Proficiency with standard office software, including Excel and Outlook, and the ability to learn industry platforms quickly. Clear written and verbal communication. Ability to work on-site. Preferred Commercial lines exposure, particularly commercial auto or trucking. Active Florida 4-40 Customer Representative or 2-20 Resident General Lines license, or willingness to obtain licensing. Familiarity with loss runs, MVRs, driver and vehicle schedules, and DOT filings. Coursework or progress toward INS, AINS, or CPCU. Bilingual capability (English/Spanish) a plus.
