New York, NY (On-site) Job Description Colstan Insurance is a full-service property and casualty agency operating in over 25 states. We specialize in commercial and personal lines. Our New York office is expanding its underwriting department and seeking an experienced Commercial Underwriter to oversee renewals and remarketing efforts, ensuring client retention, profitability, and strong carrier partnerships. Position Overview The Commercial Underwriter is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and processing renewals while proactively identifying remarketing opportunities for accounts that may no longer align with current carrier appetites or pricing. This role requires excellent analytical judgment, negotiation skills, and the ability to balance client advocacy with underwriting discipline. Key Responsibilities Review and evaluate renewal submissions, applications, and loss runs to determine appropriate coverage, pricing, and terms. Handle remarketing of accounts when renewal pricing, coverage, or carrier appetite is not competitive, presenting alternate options to retain the client. Collaborate with producers and account managers to ensure renewals are processed accurately and on time. Identify opportunities to enhance client coverage through cross-selling and endorsements. Maintain detailed records within the agency management system. Ensure all underwriting and remarketing activities comply with company guidelines and state regulations. Monitor renewal timelines to ensure all accounts are quoted, marketed, and bound prior to expiration. Qualifications Active P&C Insurance License 5+ years of underwriting or relevant experience In-depth knowledge of underwriting principles, risk evaluation, and policy structures. Strong experience with remarketing commercial accounts across multiple carriers. Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills. New York State Property & Casualty License required.
