Use your commercial P&C underwriting expertise to help protect and grow horticultural businesses, including greenhouses, nurseries, garden centers, indoor agriculture operations, and related businesses. Who We Are NIP Group is a growing insurance service provider of specialty programs for commercial insurance brokers and carriers. We provide underwriting, distribution, product management, administration, and risk management services, primarily as a managing general agent and Reciprocal Services Manager. Our culture encourages employees to be innovative, collaborative, accountable, and forward-thinking. We value people who take ownership of their work, communicate openly, and contribute practical ideas that improve results. About the Role The GrowPro Underwriter is responsible for underwriting new and renewal business within a specialized horticultural insurance program. This is a hands-on production role for an underwriter who combines sound technical judgment with strong organization, urgency, and broker relationship skills. You will evaluate account exposures, determine acceptability, develop terms and pricing, obtain needed information, document underwriting decisions, and move accounts efficiently from submission through quote, bind, and policy issuance. You will also contribute market knowledge and practical feedback that strengthen GrowPro underwriting processes, appetite, and distribution strategy. The successful candidate is a self-starter who can manage competing deadlines, recognize short-fused priorities, and maintain accuracy during peak production periods. This person works well independently while remaining collaborative and responsive to the broader team. What You'll Do Underwrite and manage a portfolio of GrowPro new business and renewal accounts in accordance with program appetite, carrier requirements, authority levels, and profitability objectives. Analyze property and casualty exposures for horticultural operations, including buildings and greenhouse structures, business personal property, equipment, stock, business income, catastrophe exposures, premises and operations liability, products liability, commercial auto, inland marine, crime, and excess exposures, as applicable. Review submissions for completeness and quality; identify material gaps, discrepancies, and risk concerns; and request the specific information needed to reach a timely underwriting decision. Develop and negotiate appropriate pricing, terms, conditions, deductibles, limits, subjectivities, and coverage structure for new and renewal business. Apply consistent risk-selection judgment while recognizing the operational differences among greenhouses, nurseries, garden centers, indoor agriculture operations, and related horticultural businesses. Manage the underwriting workflow from initial review through indication, quote, bind, and handoff for policy issuance, with clear documentation and timely follow-up at each stage. Prioritize work based on effective date, submission status, broker responsiveness, account complexity, and business urgency. Escalate emerging issues early rather than allowing deadlines to lapse. Build productive relationships with brokers and producers through responsive, direct, and solutions-oriented communication. Explain underwriting requirements and decisions clearly, including requests for additional information, changes in terms, coverage limitations, pricing decisions, and declinations. Partner with operations, rating, policy issuance, claims, loss control, sales, marketing, and leadership to resolve account issues and improve the customer and broker experience. Monitor portfolio performance and emerging trends; share observations that may improve appetite, pricing, forms, underwriting guidelines, workflow, or distribution strategy. Contribute to process documentation, training resources, and continuous improvement initiatives within the GrowPro program. Maintain organized files and underwriting notes that clearly support decisions and meet internal, carrier, and audit expectations. Provide dependable support during seasonal volume surges and other peak business periods, which may occasionally require schedule flexibility consistent with company policy. What We're Looking For Minimum of five years of commercial P&C underwriting experience. Experience with agriculture, horticulture, food processing, controlled environment agriculture, or other property-intensive specialty risks is strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to independently evaluate, price, negotiate, and manage both new and renewal business. Strong property underwriting capability, including evaluation of construction, protection, occupancy, catastrophe, equipment, stock, business income, and loss-control information. Working knowledge of commercial casualty coverages and the ability to identify material general liability, products, auto, inland marine, crime, and excess exposures. Experience underwriting on admitted and non-admitted paper. Proven ability to manage a high-volume desk, organize competing priorities, meet deadlines, and follow through without continual supervision. Sound judgment and confidence making decisions within authority, paired with the discipline to escalate appropriately when an account exceeds authority or presents an unusual exposure. Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to ask precise underwriting questions and explain decisions professionally. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation, data quality, and compliance with underwriting guidelines. Commercial mindset that balances profitable growth, broker service, carrier expectations, and long-term portfolio quality. Ability to adapt in a growing program environment and contribute constructively as processes, technology, and market conditions evolve. Positive, collaborative approach and willingness to share knowledge, support teammates, and accept accountability for individual results. Preferred Qualifications Underwriting experience with greenhouses, nurseries, garden centers, indoor agriculture, agribusiness, or other complex commercial property risks. Experience working in a specialty program, MGA, wholesale, or carrier program environment. Familiarity with portfolio analysis, loss trends, rate monitoring, and underwriting performance metrics. Experience helping develop underwriting guidelines, workflows, training materials, or product enhancements. Professional insurance designation such as CPCU, AU, ARM, AFIS, AINS, or similar coursework.
