Provide day-to-day management and support for the lending team including the Underwriting, Centralized Lending Specialists, and Lending Clerk roles. The Lending Manager will be directly responsible for the loan origination process and achieving operational excellence in delivery to internal and external members. Additional responsibilities include monitoring underwriting guidelines, working to enhance lending processes, development of lending policies/procedures and maintaining a highly skilled team. This position acts as the escalation point for lending questions, problem solving, and complaints for the lending department.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
While meeting the service standards for the credit union, hire, schedule, train, direct, develop, motivate and coach lending staff. Allocates resources to meet the needs within the lending department. Conduct performance reviews and monitor the work of lending personnel. Provide coaching to sales roles to meet credit union goals while maintaining a focus on ethical sales. Provide support to staff, serve members and resolve problems as necessary. Interviews, underwrites, approves, and closes loans within approved limits as set in policy. Has increased underwriting limit authority as well as responsibility for review of complex loan requests. Ensure loan accounts are maintained in a compliant manner. Verify that errors, quality assurance findings, and audit findings are corrected timely and accurately. Respond to compliance and regulatory agencies as required. Supports CLO during loan audits and examinations. Oversees and evaluates lending products, procedures, systems and documentation. Implements change as needed. Partners with other departments to improve processes, enhance member service, and support credit union objectives. Represents the lending department in credit union projects Prepare regular reports for management. Read and analyze reports for trends in underwriting and overall lending performance. Complete reviews (such as annual HELOC review) and report results to management. Other work-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience:
Three years to five years of similar or related experience.
Education:
(1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.
Interpersonal Skills:
Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
Other Skills:
Must have proven track record of selling and servicing loans. Extensive knowledge of regulations affecting consumer lending. Possess strong supervisory skills. Have a working knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing software; be able to use PC and general office equipment including 10-key calculator.
Physical Requirements:
Prolong periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer, able to lift up to 15 pounds at times, and be able to travel at times.
