Job Description

Job Summary Headwaters RC&D and the Butte Local Development Corporation are dynamic economic development organizations operating in a joint venture and working to foster growth and prosperity in the communities in our seven-county region. Through strategic initiatives and partnerships, we aim to stimulate innovation, attract investment, and enhance the economic landscape. The Loan Officer will assist in the management of the Butte Local Development Corporation(BLDC) and Headwaters RC&D's loan programs and portfolio. The successful candidate will work with partner lenders and small business owners to originate loan projects, and is responsible for projects from underwriting through funding. The ideal individual will have the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations, possess strong written and verbal communication, administrative, and organizational skills, and demonstrate the ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. The Loan Officer works on projects from conception to completion, and must be able to work under pressure at times to handle a wide variety of activities with expertise, and confidential matters with discretion. The Loan Officer will work in conjunction with the Director of Loan Services and the Loan Assistant. Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in finance or business administration, or equivalent combination of education and relevant banking experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience with a bank, credit union, financial institution, or economic development organization, with responsibilities related to commercial lending, credit analysis, loan underwriting, or loan portfolio management.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing business financial statements, tax returns, and borrower creditworthiness.
  • Working knowledge of commercial lending practices, loan documentation, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to work directly with business borrowers and community partners.
The Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) provides gap financing and flexible capital to support small businesses and economic development projects that may not qualify for traditional bank financing alone. Loans are made in partnership with local lenders and are designed to stimulate business growth, job creation, and long-term economic vitality in the region. Preferred Qualifications Five (5) or more years of experience in commercial or small business lending at a financial institution. Experience originating, underwriting, and servicing commercial or small business loans. Familiarity with loan portfolio management and risk monitoring. Experience working with economic development lending programs, including revolving loan funds (RLFs). Experience with SBA, USDA, or other government-supported lending programs. Demonstrated ability to build relationships with banks, businesses, and community stakeholders.
Qualified candidates should demonstrate:
Excellent computer, organizational and communication (both written and verbal) skills. Proficiency with computerized loan portfolio management and word processing software programs and common office equipment A focus on details and the capability of managing multiple projects at any given time. Ability to self-motivate and work independently. Ability to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure. Desired Skills Comfortable in preparing and presenting written and oral loan summaries and portfolio reports Experience using computerized financial analysis programs and loan portfolio management software Exceptional written, verbal and listening communication skills Enjoys working within a small, entrepreneurial environment that is mission-driven, results-driven and community-focused Duties of this Position The Loan Officer is responsible for the joint-management of multiple loan programs, supervision of the loan portfolio, underwriting and analysis of potential projects, preparation of loan documents and summaries for loan committees, and preparing and submitting required reports (monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual) to our funding partners. The Loan Officer will work closely with the Executive Director on major economic development projects that include financial assistance from state or federal agencies as well as our two organizations' loan funds, and on recapitalization of the loan fund. They will also report to the Board of Directors monthly on the overall performance of the organization's loan program. Responsible for other duties as assigned by the Executive Director. Occasional travel is required within Butte-Silver Bow and Headwaters' seven-county region. Occasional travel outside the region, including overnight travel to attend meetings, workshops and training seminars, is also required. Must be able to attend occasional evening and weekend meetings.
