Technical Proficiency Full Job Description Description:
A Mortgage Officer builds relationships with prospective borrowers, evaluates loan applications, and guides clients through the mortgage process from pre-qualification to closing. This role combines sales, financial analysis, and customer service to deliver compliant, timely mortgage solutions that meet both client needs and company objectives. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, persuasive, and comfortable working in a regulated lending environment.
Requirements:
Key Responsibilities Origination:
Source and originate residential mortgage loans through referrals, marketing, community outreach, and direct prospecting.
Client Consultation:
Meet with borrowers to assess needs, explain loan products, and recommend appropriate mortgage solutions.
Application Management:
Collect and review borrower documentation, complete loan applications, and ensure accuracy of disclosures and paperwork.
Underwriting Coordination:
Work closely with underwriters, processors, and closing teams to resolve conditions and move loans to timely closing.
Compliance:
Ensure all loan files comply with federal, state, and company lending regulations and internal policies.
Pipeline Management:
Maintain an active pipeline, track loan status, and provide regular updates to borrowers and referral partners.
Relationship Building:
Develop and maintain relationships with realtors, builders, financial advisors, and other referral sources.
Performance Targets:
Meet or exceed monthly and quarterly production goals and quality metrics.
Qualifications Required Education:
High school diploma or GED; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or related field preferred.
Experience:
Minimum 2 years of mortgage origination, loan officer, or mortgage sales experience.
Licensing:
Active Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) license as required by state and NMLS registration.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency with loan origination systems (LOS), Microsoft Office, and CRM tools.
Background Checks:
Ability to pass credit, criminal background, and employment verification checks.
Preferred Experience:
Proven track record of meeting production goals in retail or wholesale mortgage channels.
Knowledge:
Familiarity with conventional, FHA, VA, and USDA loan products.
Certifications:
Additional industry certifications or continuing education in mortgage lending. Bi-lingual a plus

Strong verbal and written communication; ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly.
Sales Acumen:
Consultative selling skills with a focus on building long-term client relationships.
Analytical Ability:
Attention to detail and ability to analyze credit, income, and property information.
