Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Payroll Supervisor is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of payroll-related accounting records and supporting the organization's general ledger functions. This position manages payroll-related reconciliations, benefit and tax reporting, and ensures compliance with federal, state, and organizational requirements. The role also supervises the Payroll Specialist and supports the administration and financial oversight of employee benefit programs, including the 401(k) plan. Working collaboratively with internal departments, leadership, and external agencies, this position helps ensure accurate financial reporting, effective internal controls, and efficient payroll and accounting operations.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Maintains the general ledger, including preparing and posting journal entries and reviewing monthly balance sheet and profit and loss statements for accuracy and completeness. 2. Ensures the integrity of payroll-related general ledger accounts, including insurance, 401(k), garnishments, tips, and related liabilities. 3. Performs and oversees payroll-related account reconciliations and bank reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution of discrepancies. 4. Prepares and files all required payroll tax returns and regulatory reports, including federal, state, and annual filings (e.g., Forms 941, W-2, 1099, Michigan 5080, MESC, workers' compensation, and census reporting). 5. Manages payroll-related benefit billings and accounting for health, dental, vision, life, and voluntary insurance plans. 6. Supports the accounting and payroll administration of employee benefit programs, including 401(k) 7. Responsible for the annual 401(k) audit in coordination with the Controller and CFO. 8. Supervises the Payroll Specialist, ensuring payroll processes are completed accurately and in a timely manner. 9. Prepares reports, collaborates with internal departments and external agencies, and recommends improvements to accounting practices and procedures. 10. Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of the position and attends required any and all training offered through the Bay Mills Human Resources Training Department trainings.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit with occasional walking and standing. Occasionally the employee must bend, crouch, kneel, push/pull, and be able to reach above shoulder level. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee is required to use their hands for repetitive action such as simple grasping of a pen or pencil.POSITION REQUIREMENTS
1. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business required. 2. At least 3 to 5 years' experience in the field of Accounting required. Experience in payroll processing/reporting and applicable duties is desired. 3. Knowledge of computers and computer applications. 4. Excellent communication skills required. 5. Must have an excellent past work record and attendance as demonstrated from reports from past employment references. 6. To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each function listed under the essential functions and physical demands categories of this position description.WORK SCHEDULE
Full-time; 52 weeks per year. In addition to regular business hours, the person in this position must be flexible around the needs of the employer, which may include occasional evening and/or weekend hours or occasional travel for employer business.DISCLAIMER
