We run a network of thrift stores that include EcoThrift, Texas Thrift, Unique Thrift, and MyThriftStores across California, New York, New Jersey, Minnesota, and Texas. Every day, we sort through over 231,000 pounds of items to help keep usable goods out of landfills. By reselling and recycling apparel, we reduce waste and help fund important social causes. Our mission is to create a more sustainable retail system that's good for the planet and gives back to the community. Job Summary The Payroll Manager oversees all payroll operations for the organization, ensuring accurate and timely processing for hourly and salaried employees across multiple locations. This role manages payroll compliance, audits, and reporting while maintaining strong internal controls and supporting leaders with payroll-related questions and resolutions. The Payroll Manager partners closely with Human Resources, Accounting, and Operations to ensure data accuracy, streamline processes, and deliver smooth employee experience. Duties and Responsibilities Lead end-to-end biweekly payroll processing for hourly and salaried employees across multiple states, ensuring accuracy and timeliness Partner with HR, Finance, and Operations to align payroll activities, validate compensation changes, and support business needs Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll regulations, taxes, garnishments, and benefits reporting Perform payroll audits, reconciliations, and variance analysis to resolve discrepancies and maintain data integrity Manage payroll tax filings, year-end processing (W-2s, 1095-Cs), and coordination with external vendors Oversee payroll systems and data flow between HRIS, timekeeping, and accounting platforms Generate reports and insights on payroll costs, labor trends, and headcount for leadership Supervise and develop Payroll staff, providing training and ensuring high performance Support audits and maintain accurate, confidential payroll records and documentation Address employee payroll inquiries with professionalism and strong customer service Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and employee experience Assist Finance with payroll-related journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations Other duties as assigned Education and Experience Bachelor's in accounting, human resources, business administration or related field Five (5) to Eight (8) years of progressive payroll experience required Retail, warehouse, or multi-location experience is preferred Multi-state experience is preferred PrimePay Experience is preferred Physical and Scheduling Requirements Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May occasionally need to stand, walk, bend, or reach during normal office activities. Regularly required to talk and hear during phone calls and virtual meetings. Occasionally required to lift and carry light objects up to 10 pounds (computer, files, office supplies).
Pay:
$85,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
