Job Description

Job Summary Own the payroll function with full accountability for accurate, timely, compliant processing across a multi-state workforce. Report directly to senior finance and/or HR leadership. Be actively involved in day-to-day payroll operations and payroll system management. This is a Hands-On position. Key Responsibilities Handle and oversee full-cycle payroll processing for employees in multiple states (including taxes, deductions, garnishments, bonuses, commissions, and direct deposits) Maintain strict compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax, wage & hour, and regulatory requirements Actively participate in the administration, configuration, troubleshooting, upgrades, and optimization of the payroll/HRIS platform Serve as key partner with HR and leadership on compensation structures, incentive plans, sales commissions, bonus programs, and pay equity matters Coordinate closely with finance on payroll reconciliations, general ledger interfaces, month-end close, and variance resolution Prepare and file required payroll tax returns, W-2s, 1099s, and quarterly/annual reports Manage internal/external audits, respond to taxing authority inquiries, and resolve complex payroll issues Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities within payroll operations Act as a payroll subject-matter expert and point of contact for the organization Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent Extensive hands-on experience processing and managing payroll in a multi-state environment Strong working proficiency with major payroll/HRIS platforms (ADP Workforce Now, UKG Pro, Paychex Flex, Workday Payroll, or similar enterprise systems) Thorough knowledge of U.S. federal/state payroll tax compliance, FLSA, and wage & hour regulations Solid understanding of compensation practices, incentive/bonus structures, and pay program administration Comfortable being hands-on with daily payroll operations and system tasks Preferred Qualifications Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) Experience administering variable pay environments
