We are looking for someone who enjoys working with people, takes pride in accuracy, and understands the importance of confidentiality and professionalism in a human resources role.
THE POSITION
The HR/Payroll Specialist will be responsible for processing payroll and supporting the day-to-day human resources and benefits functions of the Firm. This position will work closely with Firm leadership and Accounting and will serve as a resource for employees regarding payroll, benefits, leave, onboarding, and other HR-related matters.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Process payroll accurately and timely for attorneys and staff. Maintain payroll records, including new hires, terminations, compensation changes, bonuses, deductions, and benefit elections. Coordinate employee onboarding and offboarding. Maintain confidential personnel and HR records. Administer employee benefit programs and assist employees with benefit-related questions. Coordinate annual benefits open enrollment. Maintain PTO, leave, and attendance records. Assist with FMLA and other employee leave administration. Coordinate payroll deductions for benefits and retirement plans. Assist with benefit invoice reconciliation. Support annual performance review processes and other HR initiatives. Assist with I-9 documentation, workers' compensation matters, and required HR recordkeeping. Respond to routine employee payroll and HR questions and appropriately escalate sensitive or complex matters. Work closely with Firm leadership, Accounting, payroll providers, benefit providers, and other outside vendors.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
The ideal candidate will be highly organized, approachable, dependable, and comfortable handling confidential information. Because payroll affects every employee in the Firm, exceptional attention to detail and follow-through are essential. At least three years of experience in payroll, human resources, benefits administration, or a similar role preferred. Experience processing payroll in a professional-services environment preferred. Law firm experience is a plus but not required. Working knowledge of payroll practices, employee benefits, and HR administration. Familiarity with FLSA, FMLA, COBRA, and general employment recordkeeping requirements. Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word. Experience working with payroll and/or HRIS systems. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet firm deadlines. A high degree of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
