at Department of Corrections in Vienna, Illinois, United States Job Description Position Overview The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking an ambitious candidate to serve as Account Technician I. The ideal candidate will be a multi-tasker willing to work in a fast-paced work environment. This position has a variety of duties including reviewing and verifying payroll information, generating reports related to retirement and social security calculations for payment, and preparing claims for Court of Claims and Back Wage Claims. In addition, they will serve as backup and provide assistance to other accounting staff. We encourage all qualified applicants to apply! Essential Functions Prepares and enters institutional payroll. Reviews and processes documentation from other sources which effect payroll processing. Gathers and prepares information for attendance reports daily to compile the Daily Overtime Report and the Bi-monthly Overtime Justification Report. Generates reports related to retirement and social security calculations for payment. Prepares claims for Court of Claims dealing with personal services. Maintains retired employees’ files including all payroll transaction forms, federal and state tax withholding forms, and other misc. payroll-related deduction forms and documents. Serves as a backup to other Account Technician I positions while maintaining the required segregation of duties (cannot serve as a backup to positions performing timekeeping duties). Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. Minimum Qualifications Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college and completion of an approved training course OR three (3) years of related clerical bookkeeping experience. Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certification of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification. Preferred Qualifications Prefers at least two (2) years of experience posting payroll to accounts. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience applying established accounting techniques and procedures. Prefers intermediate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and Excel Spreadsheets, or similar programs. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience working with data entry. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience meeting deadlines in a time sensitive environment. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience with principles and functions of standard office accounting machines and equipment. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working in an office setting. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working with confidential information.
