Lead Payroll Specialist Job Description Job Summary:
The Lead Payroll Specialist is responsible for overseeing a team of Payroll Specialists and Payroll Technicians and collaborating with various departments to enhance the overall client experience. The Lead Payroll Specialist performs a wide variety of payroll processing activities while ensuring deadlines for their team are met and that client requests are responded to and resolved in a timely manner in accordance with Lone Oak Payroll Service Level Agreements. They partner closely with clients and internal stakeholders to strategize on how to utilize TempWorks software to improve business operations.
General Responsibilities:
Oversee the daily operations of a team of Payroll Specialists and Payroll Technicians, providing leadership, guidance, and support to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing. Manage team workload, Jira queues, and operational priorities to ensure client requests are addressed effectively and Lone Oak Payroll service level expectations are consistently maintained. Provide coaching, mentorship, and feedback to team members to support professional development, accountability, and continuous improvement. Assist Payroll Management with performance evaluations and employee development planning. Monitor payroll processing quality, identify trends, errors, and operational risks, and implement or recommend corrective actions to improve accuracy and efficiency. Partner with Payroll Management and cross-functional teams to identify and implement process improvements, standardize workflows, and maintain accurate payroll documentation, procedures, and knowledge resources. Support onboarding, training, and ongoing development of payroll team members by sharing payroll best practices, compliance updates, and operational knowledge. Collaborate with Account Managers, client stakeholders, Implementation Technicians, and Project Managers to resolve client concerns, improve service delivery, and support successful client implementations. Maintain strong knowledge of TempWorks products, payroll processes, and industry best practices to provide guidance on solutions that improve client operations and automate business processes. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Advanced understanding of payroll procedures with aptitude for math/accounting Ability to take direction and independently follow multi-step procedures to consistently meet required deadlines Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software Excellent organization skills and attention to detail Adaptable to changing environments and multiple priorities Capable of effectively prioritizing changing responsibilities to manage time and responsibilities
Education and Experience:
High school degree required, undergraduate degree in accounting, business, or related field is preferred. 1+ year of experience with bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, or equivalent. Minimum two years of customer service experience required.
Physical Requirements:
Office environment with prolonged periods working on a computer at a desk. Must be able to intermittently lift up to 10 pounds. The pay range for this role is: $60,000 - $87,000 TempWorks Software offers a comprehensive benefits package and provides eligible employees with an opportunity to enroll in various benefit programs, subject to applicable waiting periods.
