Job Description
Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Clerk to support accurate and timely payroll operations for a high-volume workforce in Fargo, North Dakota. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for someone with strong payroll processing experience who can manage multi-state payroll activity, maintain precise records, and respond effectively to employee and stakeholder inquiries. The role will contribute to payroll accuracy, compliance, and reporting while working across payroll systems and related accounting processes.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain the electronic timekeeping platform for a large employee population, ensuring hours and attendance data are accurate and current.
- Enter and update employee payroll information across payroll and administrative systems, including records tied to multiple states.
- Review payroll data before final submission, reconcile discrepancies, and confirm reports are complete and accurate.
- Process payroll on schedule for assigned entities while meeting internal deadlines and compliance expectations.
- Prepare certified payroll reporting for projects subject to prevailing wage requirements.
- Calculate and apply payroll-related deductions and obligations, including taxes, retirement contributions, direct deposits, garnishments, and support orders.
- Address questions from employees and external contacts by explaining payroll procedures, providing documentation, and resolving payment or record issues.
- Reconcile payroll-related accounts within the general ledger and support the accuracy of financial records.
- Create journal entries associated with payroll transactions and maintain supporting documentation.
- Utilize payroll platforms such as ADP, Viewpoint Vista, or Oracle Fusion when applicable to support processing and reporting needs. Requirements
- At least 3 years of payroll experience, including hands-on responsibility for end-to-end payroll processing.
- Experience handling multi-state payroll with strong attention to compliance and payroll accuracy.
- Background processing payroll for a large workforce, preferably in environments exceeding 500 employees.
- Working knowledge of payroll deductions, tax withholdings, garnishments, direct deposits, and related payroll transactions.
- Ability to reconcile payroll reports, review balances, and support general ledger accuracy.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to respond to payroll questions and resolve discrepancies professionally.
- Proficiency with payroll systems; experience with ADP is valuable, and familiarity with Viewpoint Vista or Oracle Fusion is a plus.
- High level of organization, accuracy, and discretion when working with sensitive payroll information.
