PNW Veg Co dba NORPAC is seeking applications for a Payroll Clerk to join our Human Resources team on-site at our plant in Brooks, Oregon. The Payroll Clerk is responsible for processing payroll accurately and efficiently, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulations, maintaining employee payroll records, and ensuring timely payments.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Enters and maintains information in the payroll and time & attendance systems, which may include hourly rates, salaries, bonuses or other compensation, tax information, time worked, paid leave, holidays, address changes, and other information for union employees. Processes daily shift deviation logs and manually adjusts clock in, clock out, and meal break timeclock punches as necessary. Process payroll, ensuring accuracy of hours work and paid time off taken. Track sick, vacation, and floating holiday time taken. Approve/deny requests based on balances available. Manages the accrual and tracking of bargained sick time. Collaborate with HR Clerks to ensure compliance with company policies. Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll issues or discrepancies. Stay updated on changes in labor laws and regulations affecting payroll processing. Coordinates the update of employee tax forms and information. Coordinates the issue or reissue of physical or replacement checks due to payroll errors or final pay. Lead HR team to prepare checks for distribution, and distribute to employees. Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience as a Payroll Clerk or similar role in corporate accounting or human resources. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent customer service skills. Strong communication skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll software. Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to stay calm and work effectively under pressure and in high-volume environments. Availability to work up to seven days per week during processing season (approximately July to November). Satisfactory results from a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Two (2) years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping with at least six (6) months of experience in payroll. Strong understanding of human resources processes. Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices related to payroll processing. Bilingual English/Spanish. Familiarity with account reconciliation processes.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Ability to sit for prolonged periods while performing computer and phone tasks. Manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment and handle documents. Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds occasionally (e.g., file boxes or office supplies). Visual acuity to read and process detailed information on screens and paper. Hearing and speech ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone. Mobility to move within the office environment to access files, meet with staff, and attend meetings. Standard office setting with moderate noise levels. Frequent use of computers, phones, and other office equipment. Frequent interruptions and need to prioritize multiple tasks. Position requires handling confidential information with discretion. Availability to work up to seven (7) days per week during processing season (approximately July to November).
