•The Cumberland Valley School District, a leader in public education in Pennsylvania, seeks a highly qualified candidate for the position of Payroll [Specialist] II. The Payroll [Specialist] II performs a variety of payroll processing, timekeeping, and accounting support functions to ensure the accurate and timely payment of employees. This position serves as a primary administrator of the organization's timekeeping system for hourly staff, maintains payroll records, and assists with bi-weekly payroll processing. Payroll [Specialist] II works closely with supervisors, Human Resources, and employees to resolve payroll discrepancies and ensure compliance with applicable policies, procedures, collective bargaining agreements, and regulatory requirements. Must have an excellent attendance record, be dependable, and work evenings as necessary, as well as be available during critical times of the year, including calendar year-end, fiscal year-end, contract implementation periods, and major reporting deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
Administer and maintain the employee timekeeping system for hourly staff. Review, audit, and validate employee time records for completeness and accuracy prior to payroll processing. Monitor employee timecards for missing punches, leave reporting errors, and policy compliance. Process and/or assist with bi-weekly payrolls to ensure accurate and timely employee compensation. Review payroll calculations, earnings, deductions, taxes, and leave balances for accuracy. Assist departments and supervisors with timekeeping procedures and system-related questions. Research and resolve timekeeping discrepancies and payroll-related issues. Perform detailed payroll proofing and verification of payroll data before payroll processing. Review exception reports and identify discrepancies requiring correction. Audit payroll transactions entered by other users to ensure accuracy and compliance with district procedures. Ensure bi-weekly benefit files are accurate and submitted to vendors in a timely manner. Perform other duties assigned to ensure the smooth running of payroll operations
Qualifications:
Required:
Associate degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
Preferred Experience:
Minimum of (3) years experience in payroll administration, payroll processing, accounting support, bookkeeping, or human resources support.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of payroll software and systems (e.g., CSIU preferred). Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other office software (e.g., Word, Outlook). Strong understanding of federal, state, and local tax regulations. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive payroll data with discretion. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
