The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for Better Together Supports employees while ensuring compliance with all applicable employment standards, payroll legislation, tax regulations, and organizational policies. This role maintains payroll records, administers employee pay and benefit changes, reconciles payroll-related accounts, and serves as a key resource for payroll inquiries. The Payroll Specialist works closely with Human Resources, Finance, and operational leaders to ensure employees are paid correctly and timely.Key Responsibilities:
Process payroll accurately and on schedule for all employees, including salaried and hourly Review and validate timesheets, attendance records, overtime, shift premiums, statutory holiday pay, and other payroll-related information Maintain employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, leaves of absence, compensation changes, and benefit deductions Ensure compliance with applicable federal, provincial/state, and local payroll legislation, tax regulations, and employment standards Reconcile payroll registers, general ledger accounts, and payroll-related reports Generate payroll reports for management, Finance, auditors, and regulatory agencies as required Respond to employee payroll inquiries in a professional, confidential, and timely manner Collaborate with Human Resources to ensure employee data is accurate and up to date Assist with payroll audits and provide documentation to support internal and external reviews Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, and efficiencies Maintain strict confidentiality of employee and organizational information Provide backup support for benefits administration and other Finance or HR functions as requiredRequired Skills & Qualifications:
Required:
Effective verbal and written communication skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfort with web-based databases Strong customer service orientation and ability to build rapport with diverse individuals Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving abilities Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain organization in a dynamic environment Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion Minimum 2 years of experience processing payroll in a multi-employee environment Excellent organizational and time-management abilities with the capacity to manage multiple priorities and deadlines Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environmentPreferred:
Bilingual in English and Spanish Certified Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation or equivalent payroll certification Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, employment standards, tax regulations, and statutory remittance requirements Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Strong customer service orientation and commitment to supporting employees Experience processing payroll within healthcare, community support services, disability services, nonprofit, or social service organizations Experience administering employee benefits, pension plans, and leave programs Knowledge of scheduling, timekeeping, and workforce management systems Experience with payroll audits, government reporting, and year-end payroll processes Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including reporting, pivot tables, and data analysis Understanding of accounting principles and payroll-related general ledger reconciliations Continuous improvement mindset with experience streamlining payroll processes and implementing best practicesPay:
