Job Type:
Full-Time Starting Salary:
$44,000 Annually The Cass County Assessor's Office is seeking a dependable, organized, and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Personal Property Clerk . The Personal Property Clerk provides administrative and customer service support for the Personal Property Department. This position involves processing personal property declarations, maintaining accurate property records, assisting taxpayers, entering information into the assessment system, and performing general office duties. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with the public, have strong attention to detail and be capable of managing multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Receive, review, and process personal property declarations and related documents. Enter and maintain accurate taxpayer and personal property information in the county's assessment system. Review personal property records for completeness and accuracy. Process additions, deletions, corrections, address changes, ownership changes, and other updates to personal property records. Assist taxpayers by phone, email, and in person with questions regarding personal property assessments and declarations. Explain office procedures and provide general information regarding personal property assessment requirements. Research property records and other information as necessary to resolve taxpayer questions or discrepancies. Process and maintain correspondence, forms, and supporting documentation. Assist with annual personal property declaration processing and related deadlines. Prepare, organize, scan, file, and maintain department records. Maintain accurate and orderly electronic and paper records. Communicate courteously and professionally with taxpayers, attorneys, businesses, and other members of the public. Perform general clerical and administrative duties as assigned. Perform other duties as directed by the Assessor or designated supervisor. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Strong computer and keyboarding skills. Ability to accurately enter and maintain information in computer systems. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with the public. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Dependable attendance and ability to meet established work schedules. Ability to learn and apply laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and office practices related to personal property assessment. Preferred Qualifications Previous office, clerical, administrative, or customer-service experience. Experience working with databases or other record-management systems. Experience with data entry and document processing. Experience in a government office, tax office, accounting environment, real estate, or related field. Knowledge of personal property assessment or property taxation. Previous assessment experience is helpful but not required. Training will be provided for the successful candidate. Working Environment This is primarily an office-based position requiring regular interaction with the public and other County employees. The position requires the ability to: Sit and work at a computer for extended periods. Use a keyboard, mouse, telephone, scanner, copier, and other standard office equipment. Read and review documents and computer records for accuracy. Communicate effectively by telephone, email, and in person. Occasionally lift, carry, or move office materials and files. Maintain accuracy and productivity while working in a busy office environment, particularly during periods of increased taxpayer activity.
