The City of Hampton's Assessor's Office is seeking a Commercial Appraiser to join our team and lead the valuation of commercial real estate across the city. Position Overview:
As a Commercial Appraiser, you will perform complex real estate appraisals on land and/or commercial, multi-family and industrial/warehouse buildings. Serve as a lead appraiser and provide assistance to less experienced appraisers. The class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED is required. Associate's degree in Real Estate, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field is preferred. Three (3) years of experience appraising real estate and/or assessment experience required. Successful completion of three (3) basic pre-license courses in real estate appraising from a recognized appraisal organization such as Appraisal Institute (AI), International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO), or American Society of Appraisers (ASA). Virginia appraiser license preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position. Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria. Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion. Additional Requirements Requires frequent local travel. The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
