Job Description

  • JOB SUMMARY:
  • This position provides administrative, computer and insurance service support to the SCS Risk Management Department. The support is at a higher level than is defined within the normal secretarial classification and includes decision making authority on subjects within specified boundaries.
  • JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • + High School education or above acceptable with 3 years job experience + College degree, experience in an Associate/ Administrative job position or 3+ years insurance experience preferred + Formal or extensive informal risk management training and experience preferred + Basic knowledge of property and liability insurance + Insurance professional designation a plus + Familiarity with Southern Company operations/companies/departments desired + Ability to communicate and to initiate and perform self-directed work - verbally and written + Work experience and familiarity with various computer programs including Microsoft Office Products is required.

Experience with Southern's Enterprise Foundations, Oracle systems a plus

  • MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • + Processes invoices and handles routine premium allocations + Coordinating and processing certificates of insurance and self-insurance letters + Provide computer support including Microsoft Office Products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc) and the Southern Company systems including Enterprise Foundations.

Candidate could be responsible for entering time and/or employee data

+ Prepares insurance premium tax filings as required

+ Maintain and/or be able to work with various data reports which could include property values, location listings, etc

+ Ideal candidate would be proficient with Excel and have aptitude for learning and working with AI within the Southern Company setting

+ Obtaining renewal information for insurance policies as requested; this could include working directly with the broker on our non-profit or special event placements and would support analyst or manager in large renewals

+ Communicate well with others within the company along with our brokers or insurers on our insurance and risk management programs

+ Interest and ability to understand and retain knowledge of company's insurance program

+ Prepare various special projects or program materials in support of risk management team

+ Responsible for ordering supplies and maintaining office equipment (Birmingham)

+ Prepare expense reports as needed

+ Responsible for creating and maintaining files, records retrieval and storage of records as needed

+ Coordinate travel or meeting arrangements for the department if requested

+ The position primarily supports the Birmingham Risk Management team but could also work with the Atlanta Risk Management team
