Job Description

About us Swanson Agency is a Montana-owned, multi-generational firm serving individuals, small businesses, and farms since 1933. From our offices in Whitefish and Pendroy, we pair Montana straight talk with a modern, tech-forward approach to tax and accounting. The role We're hiring an experienced, credentialed tax professional who can carry prep volume, run resolution work independently, and support review. This is a year-round, permanent seat — not a seasonal prep job. You'll step into an established client book and carry real responsibility from day one. What you'll own Return prep — the core of the role. Individual, business, farm, trust, and entity returns, including the complex ones where judgment matters. IRS and state resolution, handled independently — notices, penalty abatement, POAs, and exams. If you're comfortable owning resolution cases end to end, you'll be valued here. Review — supporting review of staff-prepared returns. Mentoring staff preparers as the team grows. A clear growth path into tax advisory and planning as that service line expands. What we're looking for Active EA or CPA — required. 4-7+ years in tax, with hands-on prep and resolution experience. Detail-oriented to the core — this role rewards people who catch what others miss. Genuinely tech-forward. We run a modern stack — cloud tax software, QuickBooks Online, and custom internal workflow tools — and we want someone who adopts and improves digital tools, not someone who merely tolerates them. Strong technical knowledge, clean organization, and a client-first instinct. Drake Tax and Canopy Tax experience a plus. Compensation & benefits
