Job Description

Tax Senior | $85k to $95k | Hybrid 3 Years' experience in Public Accounting Required There's a point in public accounting where staying patient stops feeling like a career plan. You're doing good work, you're trusted with more, clients know your name, but progression still seems to depend on how many people are sitting above you and whether one of them happens to move. This Austin firm is a lot less traditional in that sense. The structure is deliberately flat, so if you're capable of taking on more, there's less standing in your way. Progression isn't built around waiting politely for your turn, and if Partner is something you want long term, they can actually show you what that route looks like. As a Tax Senior, you'll work with everything from start-up technology businesses to established professional services firms, covering complex S Corp, Partnership and Individual work alongside first line review. The role gets broader from there too. You'll spend more time with clients, support tax consulting projects and get exposure to tax provisions, so you're not simply becoming faster at preparing increasingly complicated returns. That variety is important if you're thinking beyond Senior level because the people who progress here tend to understand the client, not just the tax form. The hours are also a bit unusual for public accounting. Busy season is capped at around 60 hours, which is still busy and I'm not going to pretend otherwise. But once deadlines are behind you, the firm drops down to around 35 hours a week. That gives you a very different year overall, rather than twelve months where busy season somehow never quite ends. The schedule is hybrid, with a few days working from the Austin office by the lake and the rest from home, so you still get time around the team without spending every day commuting. Benefits include full healthcare coverage, enhanced PTO, 401k matching and a competitive bonus structure. This probably suits somebody who doesn't necessarily want to leave public accounting, but does want a little more control over where their career goes next. If you're doing everything your current firm asks of you and still can't get a straight answer on progression, that's probably worth paying attention to. Apply and I'll be in touch. And if your resume is still sitting somewhere untouched from your last move, that's completely fine. You can find me on LinkedIn as Laura Serena Rose at Distinct North America and send me a message first. You don't need to match every point either. Sometimes the more useful question is whether you've outgrown the structure you're currently in.
