Job Description

Tax Advisor Who You Are:
You are precise, organized, and methodical and not afraid of hard work. You enjoy digging into a complicated tax question until you find the answer, and then explaining that answer to a client in plain English. When presented with a problem, you say things like "I got this!" You are fiercely independent and yet also coachable and a great team player. You live in the Treasure Valley and prefer a hybrid work-environment, with an expectation that you will be in the Eagle office at least 3 days a week. You no longer want to track every minute of your day, and you believe clients should pay for the value you create, not the hours you spend on their tax return.
The Opportunity:
As a Tax Advisor on the Summit Tax Planning team, you will guide individuals and small business owners through their entire income tax picture, from planning and projections to preparing the return. You will work closely with our professional tax staff and coordinate with our Wealth Management company (Summit Wealth & Retirement Partners). This is not a "plug in the numbers and file" role. Our clients count on us to help them make smart decisions before the year ends, and you will be an integral part of the team that shows them how. Summit Tax and Summit Wealth & Retirement Partners both have excellent reputations, and our client base is growing. That means real room to grow for the right person. What is required is an "A" player who is smart, hungry, ambitious, and genuinely enjoys helping clients.
Compensation Range:
$75K-$110K based on experience. 401K plan and health insurance will also be provided. After 1 year, additional benefits may apply.
What You'll Do:
  • Prepare and review income tax returns for individuals and small business owners. You must have experience both preparing and signing tax returns.
  • Build tax projections so clients know where they stand and can plan ahead.
  • Evaluate tax strategies and clearly communicate their impact to clients, including the expected savings, the trade-offs, and what the client needs to do in order to move forward.
  • Research specific client situations and provide well-reasoned opinions on the tax ramifications
  • Collaborate with Summit Wealth & Retirement Partners so each client's tax plan and financial plan work together
  • Respond to client questions promptly and treat every inquiry as a chance to deepen the relationship
Who We Are:
While we operate in the tax and wealth management space, we aim to be the Ritz-Carlton of professional services, and we attract and retain team members who share this vision. We are extremely systems-oriented and have managed to combine independence with collaboration. We are a small, tight, hybrid team that believes in integrity with our clients at all times, zero politics at work, and world-class service for our clients. We work hard and we are well compensated for what we do. We also share in the growth and profitability of the companies.
Your Experience:
A CPA or EA is required; a master's degree in Tax or Accounting is preferred. You have completed 100 to 200 tax returns per year, with a focus on individual and small business returns, including S corporations and partnerships. Experience with other types of returns (C corporation, gift tax, trust returns) is a plus. You have prepared tax projections and researched technical tax issues, and you are comfortable putting your conclusions in writing for clients. The ideal candidate will have direct experience with Lacerte tax software and TaxDome. You must be proficient in MS Excel and PowerPoint and know how to present complicated scenarios in simple diagram form. Compensation will be tied directly to experience and the various types of clients you can manage.
Pay:
$75,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
