Job Description

Thea Bowman Center, 11901 Oakfield Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44105 VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Site Coordinator overview of position The Site Coordinator will help to recruit and supervise volunteers at the Thea Bowman Center Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site. The Site Coordinator is responsible for troubleshooting minor technical issues with the TaxSlayer software, answering client and volunteer tax questions, attending mandatory site coordinator training and all Site Coordinators must obtain Site Coordinator Certification as well as Advanced Level IRS Certification. The Site Coordinator will be responsible for tax site reporting and will debrief with EITC Coalition staff at the end-of-season.
key responsibilities:
  • Assist with the recruitment and retention of volunteers.
  • Supervise volunteers on-site.
  • Assure all volunteers have received their IRS certification and prepare returns only up to that level.
  • Coordinate volunteer shifts and ensure volunteer coverage conforms to tax site schedule.
  • Assist the Coalition with promoting the IRS free tax preparation program.
  • Identify reliable and high performing volunteers with the potential to grow in their roles.
  • Encourage all clients to share their experiences with friends/family who qualify for assistance.
  • Provide expertise and assistance upon request or as needed by volunteers.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all sensitive information from clients and volunteers.
  • Respond to client questions and resolve problems as they arise in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that Quality Reviews are completed for all tax returns.
  • E-file all tax returns within 24 hours of their completion.
  • Ensure that rejected returns are corrected and resubmitted within the allotted time.
  • Work directly with Coalition and/or IT department if technology issues arise.
  • Performs all responsibilities that will ensure the safe and efficient operation of the VITA tax site.
  • Follow all IRS and Coalition rules and requirements put forth to ensure taxpayer and volunteer satisfaction and safety.
  • Create a positive experience for volunteers and clients seeking services from a VITA site.
qualifications:
  • Must be able to attend trainings and conduct interviews beginning in October 2026.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours from January - April, approximately 20-25 hours/week.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and comfort with diverse groups of people.
  • Demonstrated computer skills to operate tax preparation software and other activities related to tax preparation and volunteer coordination.
  • Ability to solve problems and resolve conflicts in a professional manner.
  • Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision.
