Job Description

COLLECTIONS SPECIALIST I REPORTS TO
Deputy Tax Assessor/Collector
EDUCATION
Required High School Diploma Preferred:
Bookkeeping, accounting, computer courses
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required:
Cash handling and balancing
Preferred:
Experience in dealing with public and collection of payments
RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary collector of tax payments including over the counter payments and mail payments Balancing cash drawer including printing balance sheets, totaling cash and checks Issue

Month Statements Move & modify bills on Mineral DTR Create and manage installment agreements Process Escrow agreements and quarterly agreements Issue Tax Certificates Prepare tax collection bank deposits and reports of collections in absence of Deputy Tax Assessor/Collector Post VIT Payments & create deposit Process Credit Card Payments Address Changes and Ownership changes from Guadalupe County Train for all Deputy Tax Assessor/Collector duties Back up for Deputy Tax Assessor/Collector
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS
Provide backup for public assistant and collections specialist II including but not limited to unlocking and locking front door, answering telephones, assisting individuals with collection questions, applications and/or other general information Word process documents, reports, and letters Knowledge of tax suits, bankruptcies, tax sales, and tax resales Register with BTPE and attend courses as required Assist with mailings Communication with delinquent collection law firms as needed Other duties as assigned

Requires professional and courteous attitude with public and co-workers Requires professional level telephone and verbal communication skills Working knowledge of Texas property tax collection and assessment procedures Accuracy and proficiency in handling cash and general mathematic operations
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Tasks performed with lightweight material or using force equal to lifting up to 25 pounds
Pay:
From $19.23 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
