Job DescriptionKey Responsibilities1. Tax CompliancePrepare federal taxable income calculations and supporting schedules for corporate income tax filingsGather and review state tax data from controllers; analyze for reasonableness and year-over-year consistencyCoordinate with external compliance providers to ensure accurate and timely filing of federal, state, and local income tax returnsCalculate and monitor quarterly estimated tax payments, ensuring timely and accurate submissionPrepare and manage miscellaneous tax filings (e.g., withholding tax returns, tax residency certificates, FinCEN reporting)2. Tax Provision & ReportingPrepare and review the U.S. income tax provision (ASC 740 or
IFRS IAS 12
), including current and deferred tax calculationsValidate tax payable balances and deferred tax accountsCalculate and analyze the effective tax rate (ETR) and provide explanations to the parent companyPerform quarterly tax account reconciliations and variance analysisPartner with the Controller and accounting team to ensure accurate financial data and proper recording of tax journal entries3. Tax Advisory & Business SupportSupport the Tax Director on special projects, tax planning initiatives, and strategic mattersCollaborate with external tax advisors on technical issues, transactions, and structuring considerationsProvide ongoing guidance to finance and business teams on tax-related questions and impacts4. Tax Controversy & NoticesManage federal and state tax audits, including timely and complete responses to Information Document Requests (IDRs)Handle tax notices and inquiries, resolving discrepancies with tax authoritiesMaintain audit-ready documentation and support ongoing compliance readiness5. Process Improvement & TechnologyIdentify and implement opportunities to improve tax processes, controls, and efficiencyLeverage tax technology and automation tools to streamline compliance and reportingDemonstrate intellectual curiosity and initiative to challenge the status quo and enhance the tax functionThis job description is not limited to the responsibilities above. Smiths Group may require you to undertake other tasks as feasible. QualificationsQualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldMaster's in Taxation or equivalent preferred5-8+ years of corporate tax experience (Big 4 and/or industry)Strong knowledge of:

U.S. federal and state corporate income taxASC 740 and/or
IFRS IAS 12
(tax provision)Experience managing external service providers and compliance processesProficiency with tax software (e.g., OneSource, CorpTax)Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills Preferred AttributesAbility to work cross-functionally and influence non-tax stakeholdersDetail-oriented with strong problem-solving capabilitiesProven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environmentExperience with tax technology, process automation, or transformation initiativesAdditional InformationWhy Smiths?
