Description We are looking for a versatile tax specialist to join a family office in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and take a leading role across tax oversight, investment support, and administrative operations. This position is well suited for someone who can move comfortably between detailed technical work and broader cross-functional coordination while maintaining strong judgment and organization. The role offers the opportunity to improve workflows, support portfolio reporting, and manage tax matters for individuals, trusts, partnerships, and related entities.
Responsibilities:
- Direct the full tax cycle for individuals, trusts, partnerships, and affiliated entities, including planning activities, information gathering, review coordination, issue follow-up, and timely filing completion.
- Partner with outside accountants, legal counsel, banks, insurance advisors, investment advisors, and other service providers to keep priorities aligned and deliverables moving forward.
- Strengthen internal operations by identifying inefficiencies and implementing better approaches for documentation, reporting, timelines, and handoffs between parties.
- Assist with investment operations by preparing and organizing subscription paperwork, transaction support materials, and related records for new commitments.
- Maintain accurate portfolio documentation, including diligence materials, investment notes, and performance-related records across a range of holdings.
- Contribute to periodic portfolio analysis and reporting by entering, reconciling, and validating data used for performance tracking.
- Oversee tax reporting items such as information returns and help monitor matters involving charitable giving, interest expense considerations, and business activity reporting.
- Support entity administration and treasury activities, including payment coordination, wire processing, banking confirmations, and cash movement oversight.
- Provide assistance with insurance renewal activity by helping review coverage needs and coordinating premium-related processing. Requirements
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in public accounting, financial services, a family office, or a similar setting with meaningful tax responsibility.
- Hands-on background in preparing or managing individual, partnership, trust, or entity tax matters.
- Familiarity with the needs of high-net-worth individuals, business owners, or complex private wealth structures is strongly preferred.
- Ability to shift effectively between tax work, operational tasks, and investment-related support in a fast-moving environment.
- Strong analytical judgment and the confidence to address undefined issues and build practical solutions.
- Process-oriented mindset with a demonstrated ability to improve workflows and create structure where needed.
- Exposure to alternative investments, tax planning strategies, or tax structuring concepts is beneficial.
- Relevant certification or equivalent depth of experience is preferred.
