Job Description
Some clients only call their accountant once a year. Others call before buying a business, gifting millions to their children, or making a decision that could save them a significant amount in tax. Those are the clients you'll be working with. If you've reached the stage in your career where you'd rather spend your time advising clients than pushing returns through another review, this could be exactly what you're looking for. This private client team works with high net worth individuals, family groups, trusts, estates, and closely held businesses. The relationships have been built over decades, and demand has reached the point where they need another senior adviser to help support their clients. You'll inherit established client relationships, work alongside experienced Partners on sophisticated planning projects, and have the freedom to become the person clients ask for, not just the person reviewing the work. What you'll be doing Leading tax planning for high net worth individuals and family groups Reviewing complex individual, trust, gift, and partnership returns Working directly with clients throughout the year Partnering with senior leadership on complex advisory projects Coaching Managers, Seniors, and Associates Why people make the move More advisory, less box ticking High net worth clients with genuinely interesting tax issues Long term client relationships instead of transactional work Direct access to experienced Partners Hybrid and remote working already established A firm focused on long term growth rather than private equity A genuine path to Director and Partner What they're looking for CPA or JD required Strong experience advising high net worth individuals, trusts, estates, and family groups Someone who enjoys building trusted client relationships If you've found yourself spending more time managing internal processes than helping clients solve problems, this might be the move that reminds you why you chose public accounting in the first place. If you're just browsing the job boards and you haven't dusted off your resume yet, that's not a problem. Give me a call first on 312-564-5028. Or, if you prefer, send me a connection request or message on LinkedIn (Lucy Weibel at Distinct), and we can chat there instead. If you're in accounting and unsure whether to apply because you don't meet every single requirement, I would still encourage you to apply. We work with CPA firms that are committed to building diverse, inclusive workplaces, and if this role is not quite right, there is a good chance I will be working on another opportunity that is.
