full-time CooperDouglas is partnering with a publicly traded, real estate investment trust in hiring a Tax Director. This is a high-visibility leadership role inside a well-run REIT that takes compliance seriously and invests in the people who run it. The Role This is a hands-on compliance leadership role for someone who thrives in execution and review. You'll own the full tax compliance function across a complex, multi-entity REIT structure, from qualification testing to partnership reporting to multi-state filings. You'll lead an internal team, manage outside advisors, and serve as the go-to tax resource for accounting, legal, and investment stakeholders. What You'll Be Responsible For Leading REIT qualification compliance, including quarterly and annual testing and distribution requirements Overseeing federal and multi-state REIT and partnership tax return preparation and review across tiered structures and operating partnerships Reviewing Schedule K-1s, allocations, and investor reporting Managing all filing deadlines (returns, extensions, estimated payments) across entities and jurisdictions Coordinating multi-state composite filings and withholding requirements Managing and developing an internal tax team while overseeing external advisor deliverables Handling tax notices, audits, and information requests Partnering cross-functionally to ensure accurate, timely tax reporting data What You Bring 8-10+ years of progressive tax experience with a clear focus on REIT and partnership tax compliance Strong technical command of REIT qualification rules and partnership taxation Multi-state tax filing and apportionment experience A blend of Big 4 or public accounting and in-house real estate industry experience is strongly preferred CPA preferred Solid Excel and tax compliance software skills
Compensation:
$180K - $220K base plus generous cash incentives. Hybrid schedule based in Irvine, CA.
