Job Description
Tax Manager Distinct Recruitment - 4.5 Grapevine, TX Job Details Full-time $130,000 - $160,000 a year 4 days ago Benefits Health insurance 401(k) Tuition reimbursement Paid time off Work from home Vision insurance 401(k) matching Flexible schedule Retirement plan Paid sick time Qualifications Professional networking CPA Interpersonal skills Public accounting Enrolled Agent Full Job Description Tax Manager Grapevine, Texas | Hybrid Up to $160,000 base salary plus 20% bonus CPA or EA required There comes a point where reviewing more returns stops feeling like career progression. You have already built the technical foundation. You can review the work, manage deadlines, spot issues, and make sure everything gets finished properly. The next step is getting involved before the answer is already on the page. Understanding what the client is trying to achieve. Helping them think through a decision. Looking ahead at the tax implications rather than only dealing with them afterwards. This independent CPA firm in Grapevine, TX is looking for a Tax Manager who wants more of that kind of work. You will remain close to compliance, but it will not define the whole role. The firm wants someone who can become a trusted client contact, contribute to planning and consulting work, and build relationships that continue throughout the year. Advisory work here is part of what you do as a Manager. You do not need to wait until Partner level to get involved. What could be better about this move You will get a broader mix of compliance, tax planning, strategy, and advisory work. Instead of mainly seeing transactions after they have happened, you will increasingly be involved in conversations about what clients are considering doing next. That gives you the opportunity to ask better questions, understand the wider picture, and provide advice that can genuinely influence a decision. You will also work directly with firm leadership, giving you easier access to the people making decisions and greater visibility for the contribution you make. And because you will stay involved with clients throughout the year, there is more opportunity to build proper relationships rather than knowing them mainly through returns, emails, and review notes. The firm offers hybrid flexibility, with a practical approach based around trust, delivery, and client needs. The role You will manage and review tax work for individuals and privately owned businesses. You will act as a key client contact and develop relationships that extend beyond filing deadlines. You will provide proactive tax planning and practical guidance throughout the year, while contributing to consulting work and broader client strategy alongside the leadership team. You will also review work completed by junior accountants and help them develop both technically and in the way they communicate with clients. As your understanding of each client grows, you will be encouraged to identify situations where additional planning, advice, or support could be genuinely useful. The aim is not to turn every client conversation into a sales exercise. It is to understand the client well enough to recognise where the firm can add more value. Who could fit The firm is open to tax professionals currently operating at Senior, Supervisor, or Manager level within public accounting. You will need a strong technical grounding in tax compliance, confidence working directly with clients, and either a CPA or EA . Just as importantly, you should be curious about the thinking behind the work. This could be a good move if you keep hearing that you will eventually get more advisory exposure at your current firm, but most of your week still disappears into compliance and review. It could also make sense if you are already carrying significant responsibility and want your compensation, client exposure, and visibility within the firm to better reflect what you are capable of. Compensation Up to $160,000 base salary plus a 20% bonus. Start with a conversation You do not need to match every point above or have an updated résumé ready. The firm is interested in technical ability, judgement, potential, and how you work with clients rather than finding someone who fits a rigid checklist. Apply through Indeed or call me directly on 972 807 7244 for a confidential conversation. I am usually available from 6am CST and again after 5pm CST .
