Job Description
Tax Manager InventWealth CPA & Tax Advisors Great Neck, NY
• Hybrid You are not applying to manage tax returns. You are applying to become a key leader inside a growth-minded advisory firm. At InventWealth, we do not want a Tax Manager who hides behind software, checklists, or compliance language. We want someone who can walk into a client conversation, understand the business behind the numbers, spot risk and opportunity early, and translate tax complexity into clear, practical advice. This role is for a high-level operator and advisor — someone who can protect quality, lead workflow, support the team, and build trust with clients in a way that makes the firm stronger without the founder having to touch everything. If you are excellent technically but weak with people, this is not your role. If you are warm with clients but loose on detail, this is not your role. We want both. What this role is really about Your job is to help us scale by owning three things at a high level: Client confidence — clients feel guided, informed, and cared for Technical excellence — returns and planning work are reviewed with judgment, not just processed Operational stability — deadlines, workflow, and team coordination run without chaos You will be a central player in how clients experience our firm and how our team performs during the busiest seasons. What success looks like In this role, you will: Review complex individual, corporate, partnership, and entity tax returns with strong technical judgment Catch issues, opportunities, and inconsistencies that software and less experienced staff miss Serve as a trusted day-to-day advisor for a portfolio of business and individual clients Translate tax and financial issues into plain English clients can actually understand Proactively identify tax-saving opportunities, planning ideas, and risks before clients ask Help manage workflow across engagements so deadlines are met without constant escalation Keep communication moving across clients, staff, and leadership so nothing important gets stuck Mentor junior team members and raise the quality of the work coming through the firm Support engagements involving small businesses, entrepreneurs, real estate investors, and medical/dental practices Reduce founder dependency by owning client communication, technical review, and execution at a high level What winning in this role looks like after 6-12 months The right person will help us create measurable improvement in areas like: Faster and cleaner turnaround on tax engagements Fewer errors, fewer fire drills, and fewer last-minute surprises Stronger client retention through better communication and advisory value More proactive planning conversations instead of reactive filing work Better team accountability and development Less day-to-day founder involvement in workflow and client issue resolution Who you are You are likely a strong fit if: You have 7-10+ years of accounting experience, ideally in public accounting You can review complex tax work with confidence and sound judgment You are client-facing by nature — not because you have to be, but because you are genuinely good at it You can explain sophisticated tax issues in a way that makes clients feel smarter, not smaller You are organized, responsive, and accountable — you close loops without being chased You can manage workflow across multiple moving parts without creating drama You know how to coach junior staff and raise standards without micromanaging You are comfortable owning outcomes, not just completing tasks You care about quality, but you are also practical and efficient You want to be part of a firm that is building, improving, and growing — not coasting Strong pluses CPA license Experience with real estate clients Experience with closely held businesses Experience with healthcare, dental, or medical practice clients Experience in firms where advisory matters as much as compliance Who should not apply This role is not for someone who: Just wants to prepare returns and stay behind the scenes Needs constant direction to move work forward Avoids client conversations Gets overwhelmed by accountability and deadlines Treats workflow ownership as "someone else's job" Wants a comfortable maintenance role instead of a growth role Why InventWealth We are building a firm that values judgment, communication, and advisory thinking — not just production volume.
That means:
Your ideas will matter Your client relationships will matter Your leadership will matter Your ability to improve how work gets done will matter We believe tax work should create clarity and confidence for clients — not confusion. We take the work seriously, but we are building a business that grows through trust, quality, and smart execution. If you want to be somewhere that gives you room to lead, contribute, and grow while doing meaningful work with real clients, we should talk.
