TAXPRACTICE OPERATIONS MANAGER
Excel Tax Group | Aliso Viejo, California | Hybrid$75,000-$110,000 per year Are you the person who brings order to complexity, anticipates problems, and makes sure nothing falls through the cracks? Excel Tax Group is seeking a diligent, systems-minded Tax Practice Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of one of our practice pods. Working alongside three other Practice Managers, you will manage a small team and a substantial client portfolio encompassing approximately 400-500+ annual tax returns and related year-round services. This is an operational leadership role—not a traditional technical Tax Manager position. Its focus is on people, workflows, deadlines, client relationships, and consistent execution. Strong tax-practice experience is important, while a CPA, EA, or similar credential is preferred rather than required.WHAT YOU'LL OWN
Manage the day-to-day operations of one Excel Tax Group practice pod Coordinate workflows, deadlines, team capacity, and client deliverables Schedule staff optimally across engagements based on team capacity, experience, deadlines, and client needs Ensure every assignment has a clear owner, status, deadline, and follow-through Lead, coach, and hold a small team accountable for excellent performance Coordinate tax-season execution across approximately 400-500+ annual returns Monitor bottlenecks, identify risks early, and resolve issues proactively Maintain strong client relationships through clear, timely, and professional communication Help document, implement, and continuously improve repeatable processes Use technology and automation to increase visibility, consistency, and efficiency Track operational performance and communicate important developments to firm leadership Collaborate with other Practice Managers to apply firmwide standards and share effective practices Support the integration of acquired practices as Excel Tax Group continues to growWHO WILL THRIVE HERE

You may be a strong fit if you: Have meaningful experience in a tax, accounting, CPA, or professional-services firm Understand tax-practice workflows, deadlines, client expectations, and busy-season demands Have successfully managed people and improved team performance Communicate confidently and professionally with clients, employees, and firm leadership Think in terms of processes, systems, dependencies, and measurable outcomes Are diligent, organized, resourceful, and highly reliable Take initiative and address problems without needing constant direction Stay calm under pressure and maintain high standards when the pace accelerates Look for practical and innovative ways to improve how work gets done Demonstrate the judgment, work ethic, and follow-through that firm leadership can rely upon Value collaboration and enjoy working as part of a team of fellow managers A CPA, EA, or other relevant credential is preferred but not required. Proven leadership, tax-practice knowledge, strong communication, sound judgment, and operational excellence matter most.WORK ARRANGEMENT
This is a full-time hybrid position based at: Excel Tax Group130 Vantis Drive, Suite 145Aliso Viejo, CA 92656 A minimum of three onsite days per week is generally expected based on the needs of the practice. Typical hours are approximately 40-45 hours per week, increasing to approximately 50-60 hours during busy season. Weekend work is generally not expected and remains rare—even during busy season.COMPENSATION AND GROWTH
